Porsche is a well-known German luxury automaker, and since the company builds high-quality, high-end cars, they won’t be cheap. With that being said, Porsche sells a decent amount of cars, and there are no signs that the German automaker is slowing down as far as its sales go. Here’s a look at how Porsche is doing as a company and why it only needs to finish the year strong in order to have an amazing 2023.

Porsche has been on a good run in the last few years

GoodCarBadCar gave an overview of how automakers are doing in the last few years, and while the pandemic was a rough time, Porsche ultimately did great. A lot of automakers had trouble in 2021 due to supply chain issues, and while Porsche was not immune to those problems, the company’s sales were largely unaffected.

In the fourth quarter of 2020, Porsche sold about 17,500 units. It maintained that pace for almost the entirety of 2021, and that allowed the automaker to sell just over 69,000 units that year. For comparison, Porsche sold around 61,000 units in 2019, which means that despite the pandemic, Porsche was growing in sales.

The German luxury automaker continued growing in 2022 despite the fact that, once again, supply chain issues impacted many other automakers. The first quarter of 2022 wasn’t very strong as it sold about 13,000 units, but the second quarter and fourth quarters were very strong with about 20,000 units each. That allowed Porsche to finish 2022 with over 70,000 units sold.

A strong finish is all Porsche needs to have an amazing 2023 in terms of sales

On top of that, Porsche has maintained that pace in the first two quarters of 2023. In the first quarter of the year, Porsche sold almost 17,500 units. The second quarter was also strong, as the company sold nearly 19,000 units. That means that, in the first half of the year, Porsche has sold over 36,000 units. That’s much better than what Porsche sold in the first half of 2022, which came in at about 32,000 units.

That’s a very promising start to the year, and it’s much better than what the company was doing last year. As a result, if Porsche finishes the year strong like it did in 2022, then 2023 can be a record year for the German automaker.

That’s because the 70,000 units that Porsche sold last year is the most amount of cars that the company has sold in a year in a long time. If Porsche can keep the pace up, then 2023 will be its best year in decades.

Porsche is known for fast cars, and that’s usually seen with its sports cars, such as the 911 and the Panamera. However, these high-speed automobiles aren’t what’s driving the company’s sales growth. As many drivers are aware, SUVs are dominating America right now, and it’s not surprising that Porsche’s most popular models are also its SUV models.

The Macan, which is a compact SUV, is Porsche’s best-selling model in America. So far this year, the Macan has sold over 2,000 units every month, and that’s also made it the best-selling Porsche in every single month of the year. In total, Porsche has sold just under 14,000 units of the Macan in the first half of the year.

The Cayenne, which is a midsize SUV, is in second place. It’s averaged about 1,500 units every month this year. Combined, it’s sold over 9,000 units so far this year. The next best-selling Porsche is the 911 though, which is a classic sports car.
