Some of the best-selling cars right now are pickup trucks. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering how popular SUVs and pickup trucks are. Keeping tabs on the best-selling cars can help you stay up-to-date on which cars are considered safe, reliable, and stylish. Of course, sometimes pickup trucks sell well just because people like them, so it’s important to do your own research. Still, the fact that these pickup trucks dominate the list of best-selling cars of 2021 (so far) says a lot about how much they have to offer.

The 2021 Ford F-Series is the best-selling vehicle of 2021

It may only be October, but the 2021 Ford F-Series is truly obliterating the competition. In the first full nine months of the year, the 2021 Ford F-Series is the best-selling vehicle. So far, Ford has sold 534,831 F-Series, according to Forbes. That number, while huge, is down 8.4% from last year. Plus, the F-Series margin over its top two competitors, the 2021 Ram and the 2021 Chevy Silverado, has decreased. While the F-Series destroyed the Ram by 187,000 units last year at this time, this year that margin has shrunk to 100,000. And it’s sold 128,000 more F-Series than Chevy has sold Silverados, which is way less than the 174,000 more trucks it had sold last year by the end of the third quarter.

The Ram pickup’s sales are up this year

Despite the microchip shortage that is causing major delays and disruptions this year, the 2021 Ram pickup is selling more than ever. Sales for the year-to-date are up 9%. Altogether, Ram has sold 434,772 pickup trucks so far in 2021. This number is enough for the Ram pickup to pass the Chevy Silverado to take second place. Thus far in 2021, Ram pickup trucks have outsold the Chevy Silverado by 28,000 units. It’s not an insignificant number. However, the 2021 Chevy Silverado did surpass the Ram’s sales by 2,200 units in the third quarter. What will happen in the fourth quarter remains to be seen.

The 2021 Chevy Silverado takes spot number three on the list of best-selling cars

It’s no surprise that the 2021 Chevy Silverado is in spot number three on the list of best-selling cars of 2021. Perhaps the only surprising thing is that it’s dropped down. Previously, the Silverado had the second spot on the list, but it’s slid down with 407,266 trucks sold so far in 2021. This number is up only .2% from last year.

The 2021 Toyota Tacoma’s sales are up nearly a quarter

Even though the 2021 Toyota Tacoma’s sales are up 23.7% thanks to the 200,631 pickup trucks they’ve sold, it isn’t enough for better than tenth place on the list of best-selling cars in 2021. In the third quarter, the Tacoma’s sales were up 4.1%, but September was a dismal month for the Tacoma. Sales in that month were down 19.2%.

The 2021 GMC Sierra sold almost 200,000 units

Even though the 2021 GMC Sierra is the 2021 Chevy Silverado’s sibling, it didn’t sell nearly as many pickup trucks as the Silverado. In fact, it sold only 191,186 in the first three quarters of 2021. Still, this number is good enough for the 2021 Sierra’s sales to be up 10.4%, and for the Sierra to be in eleventh place on the list of best-selling cars.

Considering the fact that these pickup trucks are generally best-sellers, it’s probably not a huge surprise to see all of them on the list of the top twenty best-selling cars in 2021. Perhaps the only surprising thing is that some of their numbers continue to rise, even as the microchip shortage and supply chain disruptions continue. It will be interesting to see what the fourth quarter brings for these best-selling pickup trucks.
