Crash testing cars, trucks, and SUVs isn’t new, but it has been increasingly important in recent years. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash tests are all on YouTube; these are the five most popular videos from 2022. With everything from modern sport utility vehicles to not-so-modern subcompact cars, the IIHS tests it all.

Tesla had the most watched Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test video

Now is your chance if you aren’t up to date on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test videos. With the most views in 2022, the 2021 Tesla Model Y crash test video on YouTube came in first with 273,000 views. After testing, the Model Y received the Top Safety Pick Plus for vehicles built after April 2021.

The Tesla SUV received high scores on all of the main crashworthiness tests. It received two scores for the headlights, with the LED projector headlights on the Performance trim getting the highest score of “good.” The Long Range trim only got LED reflector headlights, which received a lower score.

Either way, there are two videos on YouTube showcasing the 40 mph driver-side small overlap IIHS crash test and another for the original side test.

The IIHS crash test videos for the Chevrolet Spark had a lot of views

On the IIHS YouTube channel, the 2013 Chevrolet Spark driver-side small overlap test has more than 5,364,224 views and counting. The video, posted on December 19, 2013, gave the Spark an overall score of “acceptable” on the 40 mph driver-side small overlap crash test.

There are two more videos of the 2013 Chevrolet Spark, one of the side crash test at 31 mph and another of the 40 mph moderate overlap test. Both Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test videos have more than 100,000 views, landing the Spark in second place overall for most watched videos this year.

The 2022 Subaru BRZ driver-side small overlap 40 mph test racked up 164,713 views since hitting the airwaves on May 3, 2022. The sporty Subaru received an overall score of “good” and was a Top Safety Pick Plus winner.

There are a few videos for the 2021 Ford Bronco, but the driver-side small overlap test is the most popular one. This test is performed at 40 mph and has more than 154,000 views at the time of publication. The Bronco received an overall score of “good,” but the head restraints and headlights held it back from any awards.

Videos for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler are also popular, with almost 200,000 views in the last seven months. The Jeep Wrangler is a popular SUV, so it makes sense people would be interested in how safe it is. For the overall evaluation, the Jeep Wrangler received a below-average score of “marginal.”

People watched more than 207,800 hours of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety crash test videos in 2022. As safety measures continue to get more stringent, IIHS tests will continue to help buyers find safe cars, trucks, and SUVs.
