It’s inevitable that as we get further into the electrification zeitgeist, more of our favorite gassers will be leaving for EV counterparts. That’s what happened to the Mercedes-Benz G500 SUV, which most just call G-Wagen. The squared-off utilitarian-looking luxury SUV has been around for years with a V8, but that is coming to an end.

What engine package does the Final Edition G-Wagen have?

But Mercedes is celebrating the end of the V8 G-Wagen with a Final Edition limited-edition it’s calling  “a parting gift from the V8 biturbo engine.” That being the 421 hp 500 GE V8. Among several unique features, it starts with three special colors, black, white, and green. There will be 500 of each color, and then the V8 G-Wagen will disappear.

A special five-spoke 20-inch wheel from AMG featuring a special Final Edition center is also part of the package, offered only in black, except for green G-Wagens. For those, the light alloy wheels are matching green. And other Final Edition reminders are sprinkled around the exterior, including the spare wheel cover.

What are the G-Wagen Final Edition features?

The cabin features many new touches starting with the new Manufaktur leather package. This starts with exterior color-matching Nappa leather in a diamond pattern for the inserts. The Seat Comfort package gives riders massaging front seats with vented cushions, and the heated steering wheel is great for colder climes.

Entering the cabin, you get a 12.3-inch infotainment screen. A large knob on the console controls functions. The package includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 590-watt Burmester audio system, and a Wi-fi hotspot. As with the exterior, Final Edition reminders are throughout.

What is the G-Wagen Final Edition price?

The current G-Wagen got a refresh back in 2019. All G-Wagens feature a nine-speed automatic backing the bi-turbo V8. The AMG package ups the power to 577 hp, badged as the G63. Four-wheel drive is standard, with three locking differentials.

Safety and driver-assistance tech features include blind-spot monitoring and self-parking assist. There’s also forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

Mercedes hasn’t announced pricing or allotments for the U.S. In Europe, the MSRP is just shy of $215,000. The base price for a G-Wagen here in the U.S. is $140,000. It offers the same 4.0-liter V8, albeit without the Final Edition goodies.
