The 2023 Nissan Ariya is Nissan’s new electric SUV model. Electric SUVs were once scarce, but now it seems like every automaker is rolling out an electric SUV. Here’s everything you need to know about the Nissan Ariya.

The 2023 Nissan Ariya can go the distance

Range is the most important spec when it comes to electrical vehicles. Plenty of EVs have failed because they had poor range. The Honda Clarity’s death is just one example of what happens when an electric vehicle doesn’t have enough range.

The time for producing fully electric vehicles with under 200 miles of range is long gone, thanks to modern innovations. Today’s battery electric vehicles (BEVs) use battery packs that provide upwards of 200 hundred miles of range. Vehicles with multiple motors can get as much as 300 miles of range and beyond.

Electric vehicles aren’t as convenient as gas-powered vehicles in terms of traveling distance before needing to refuel yet. That being said, it won’t be long until EVs catch up. As more consumers purchase electric vehicles, we may change our fueling habits as a society as well. Nissan made sure its electric SUV could go the distance to compete with its rivals.

According to MotorTrend, the single motor long-range 2023 Nissan Ariya will get 300 miles of range. The dual-motor Ariya will get 265 miles of range.

How does the 2023 Nissan Ariya compare to its competitors?

The Nissan Ariya isn’t the average electric SUV. Its range is above average. Its power is also above average. The Ariya makes 238 using a single motor. Its dual-motor setup makes 389 horsepower.

The Nissan Ariya will likely have more range than both the Toyota bZ4X and the Subaru Solterra. It is also very likely to be quicker and more powerful. The Ariya’s real competition is the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The Mach-E is currently in the running for the most popular electric vehicle of the year.

The base model Nissan Ariya may have more range than the Ford Mustang Mach-E, but it isn’t as quick. The Nissan Ariya also appears to be more expensive than the Mach-E. It is estimated to start around a whopping $47,000. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Select starts at $42,895. Its price after electric vehicle tax credits is closer to $35,395.

The Nissan Ariya may boast impressive power and range, but it already has a few drawbacks. Competitive electric base model SUVs range from $33,000-$36,000 after electric vehicle tax incentives. The Nissan Ariya could start at a much higher price.

The Ariya looks like a futuristic concept vehicle, but so do the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra. Nissan’s new electric SUV will have to stand out to compete against its rivals, and thus far Nissan hasn’t shown us anything mind-blowing. The Ariya seems to incorporate impressive technology, but will that be enough to set it apart?

If you are considering an electric SUV, it may be best to wait until the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra are released. Jumping the gun could leave you with an expensive electric vehicle that is shockingly boring to own.
