The 2023 Nissan Ariya is Nissan’s newest electric SUV. How does the electric SUV match up to its competitors? Most importantly, is the 2023 Nissan Ariya affordable?

The 2023 Nissan Ariya’s price is surprising

The 2023 Nissan Ariya is an electric SUV that is arriving in the United States and Canada sometime in 2022. The Ariya will face stiff competition from popular electric SUVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y.

Nissan may be earlier to the electric vehicle game than some other automakers, but SUVs like the Mach-E and Model Y have already made a name for themselves. Many of the Ariya’s rivals offer stellar performance and speed. So what does Nissan’s new electric SUV have to offer consumers, perhaps a more affordable price than competitors?

According to MotorTrend, the Nissan Ariya’s entry-level trim, the Ariya Venture Plus, will start at $47,125 (yikes). Even with an electric vehicle tax credit price reduction, you’re still looking at a $39,000+ price tag for the base model Nissan Ariya. So, is the 2023 Nissan Ariya affordable? The short answer is no.

Japanese SUVs like the 2023 Subaru Solterra and 2022 Toyota bZ4X are expected to get starting prices of around $40K. This will bring their true price down to around $33K after applicable tax credits. The 2023 Nissan Ariya is actually more expensive than many of its competitors. Do its capabilities justify its price?

The 2023 Nissan Ariya is estimated to get 265 miles of range on its dual-motor version. It will get 300 miles of range on its long-range single motor trim.

The Nissan Ariya’s single motor trim will make 238 horsepower. Its dual-motor trim will make a whopping 389 horsepower. Nissan seems to have options for consumers who value power and range. The Ariya’s specs are impressive for a new electric SUV. Its power and range warrant a slightly higher starting price than the competition, but does it really provide the most value in its vehicle class?

The Ariya and its futuristic design are most easily compared to other Japanese electric SUVs. It will produce more power and have more range than standard Subaru Solterras and Toyota bZ4Xs. Its higher price isn’t competitive. Instead, the Ariya is an alternative for consumers willing to shell out more money for an EV with a little more range and oomph.

The 2023 Nissan Ariya will feature advanced tech and safety features, but frankly, it won’t be exciting enough to steal most consumers away from the Blue Oval’s electric Mustang SUV. The Ford Mustang Mach-E Premium trim starts at just $48,100. It’s pricey, but it’s a steal considering the value it provides.

The Mach-E Premium gets 300 miles of range and can go from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. Want excitement? A Mustang Mach-E is a much better pick than an electric Nissan.
