When you think about the Kia Telluride and Mazda CX-90, it’s appropriate to play western music in your head. The 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a new three-row SUV that rolled into town to challenge the 2023 Kia Telluride. However, the Telluride isn’t nervous. 

The 2023 Kia Telluride is more affordable than the 2024 Mazda CX-90 

Regarding the 2023 Kia Telluride vs. the 2024 Mazda CX-90, pricing plays a critical role for families. Motor Trend points out that the CX-90 features a premium price tag, meaning the Telluride could provide more value. 

The 2023 Telluride starts at $35,890, and the range-topping SX-Prestige X-Pro model takes the price up to $52,985. These prices are the MSRPs and don’t include the $1,335 destination charge or dealership markups. 

Also, the Telluride has 10 different configurations available, providing families with plenty of options for their individual needs. 

The Mazda CX-90 starts at $40,970, which is only $945 higher than the CX-9 model it’s replacing. However, it starts at about $5,080 more than the entry-level Telluride. The range-topping Premium Plus model brings the cost up to $61,325 before options. 

It has a 1,375 destination charge and 11 different trim levels available. Also, it has a hybrid and PHEV powertrain. 

Does the Telluride or CX-90 have more power? 

The 2024 Mazda CX-90 has more power than the 2023 Kia Telluride. However, both models feature an impressive amount of standard power. 

With the Telluride, you get a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 6.8 seconds, which is slightly above average for the class. It can tow up to 5,500 lbs. 

The Mazda CX-90 kicks things off with a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine that provides 280 hp and 322 lb-ft of torque. The high-output model cranks out 340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both are assisted by a mild hybrid system. 

We’re still waiting for more details about the CX-90 PHEV, but it could use the same four-cylinder setup with a 17.8-kWh battery pack. It has 323 hp in the smaller CX-60 model.

 It could have up to a 30-mile electric range and get an EPA-estimated 70 MPGe. Also, the CX-90 can tow up to 5,000 lb and has standard AWD across the entire lineup. 

The CX-90 could be faster than the Telluride, but we’re still waiting for official specs. Plus, the Telluride gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. 

Does the Telluride or CX-90 have more value? 

The 2023 Kia Telluride and 2024 Mazda CX-90 both have lots of benefits to consider, but standard AWD with the CX-90 is hard to beat. But the Telluride may have more passenger and cargo space. We’re waiting on more official specs from of the CX-90 to confirm this. 

Both entry-level models have simulated leather upholstery, keyless entry, and push-button start. The CX-90 has a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, and the Telluride has a 12.3-inch unit with built-in navigation. 

While the CX-90 may save fuel and be a sportier than the Telluride, the Telluride still has a more affordable price without skimping on the benefits.
