A lot of critics have been calling the outgoing Toyota Tacoma a dinosaur. Typically, those old lizards are seen as slow and lumbering, unless it’s like a TRX or Raptor R. Anyways, is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma more athletic? Did it get a speed boost?

How fast is the 2024 Toyota Tacoma?

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma can accelerate from 0 to 60 mpg in about 7.0 seconds. This is with the mid-tier engine option.

With the turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine you get 278 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. This is with higher trim levels.

On the standard SR trim, this engine only cranks out 228 hp and 243 lb-ft of torque. We’re assuming that this engine is a bit slower.

The Tacoma Hybrid has the i-Force Max powertrain. It pairs the 2.4-liter engine with a battery pack and electric motor for 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque.

We’re confident that the hybrid model is faster, but will it be fast enough? The 2024 Ford Ranger Raptor can reach 60 mph in about 5.8 seconds.

The 2024 Chevy Colorado recently beat the 2024 Tacoma in a drag race and can reach 60 mpg in about 6.1 seconds.

We will have to wait for the Tacoma Hybrid to come out to see if it can keep up. But the 2024 Tacoma is faster than the previous generation.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.7 seconds. So, the new Tacoma is over half a second faster with the upgraded turbo engine.

Also, the outgoing model has an available 3.5-liter V6 engine with 278 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder option with 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque.

Plus, the 2023 Tacoma got an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 23 mpg on the highway. With the turbo engine, the 2024 Tacoma gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 24 mpg on the highway.

The Tacoma Hybrid might do better, but we’re still waiting on official EPA testing. The new Tacoma is a little faster and better on gas, but the Hybrid could be even better.
