The Jeep Cherokee, alongside the Wrangler, is one of the brand’s most popular and recognizable models. Over the years, the Cherokee’s evolution from a utilitarian “sports wagon” to its current near-luxury SUV status never strayed far from its “Trail Rated” roots.

For 2023, the Jeep Cherokee only offers two trim levels, Altitude Lux and Trailhawk, and both only come with four-wheel drive (4X4) drivetrains.

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee

In recent years, some automotive critics, such as Car and Driver, began making a case for Jeep’s inclusion into the luxury automobile ranks. While the 2023 Jeep Cherokee isn’t necessarily loaded with traditional luxury adornments, its reliable off-road capability provides a level of emotional comfort lacking from other brands when road conditions deteriorate.

Both Cherokee trim levels come with 17-inch wheels, an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and “all-weather 4X4 capability.”

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee Altitude Lux

The base model Jeep Cherokee Altitude Lux starts at $37,695. The Altitude Lux trim features premium leather-trimmed bucket seats and a 2.4-liter inline-four-cylinder with 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque.

The base drivetrain consists of a nine-speed automatic transmission and Jeep’s “Normal Duty Suspension” that provides “outstanding on-road driving dynamics, superb handling, and an exceptionally quiet cabin.”

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk

The top-level Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk starts at $41,295 and comes with more attractive “painted diamond-cut” 17-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. Inside the cabin, you’ll find standard “cloth/premium vinyl bucket seats,” although the premium leather seats found standard in the Altitude Lux are an option requiring “additional selections.”

The drivetrain is the most significant difference between the two Cherokee trim levels, including engine and suspension upgrades. The Trailhawk has a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four-cylinder with 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque, a nine-speed automatic transmission, and Jeep’s “Off-Road Suspension.”

Jeep says its “off-road suspension provides outstanding off-road driving dynamics and superb handling, ideal for taking on those tough trails.”

Aside from the mechanical differences, the Trailhawk features a more aggressive look thanks to its black paint accents, black front and rear bumpers, and red-painted tow hooks.

How much does a fully loaded Jeep Cherokee cost?

The 2023 Jeep Cherokee Altitude Lux offers two additional packages, the Interior Package by Mopar and the Lux Elite Package. The Interior Package adds $265 and includes the Mopar cargo-area liner and slush mats. The Lux Elite Package costs $3,195 and consists of the following upgraded features:

  • Exterior mirrors, radio, and driver’s seat with memory
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Dual-pane panoramic sunroof
  • Power Liftgate
  • Premium speaker system

With the added package options, a $495 premium paint color, 18-inch wheels with touring tires, and $1,595 destination charges, a fully loaded 2023 Jeep Cherokee Altitude Lux MSRP is $45,585.

Options for upgrading the Cherokee Trailhawk include the following:

  • Premium paint color – $495
  • Mopar Rock Rails – $1,030
  • 17-inch black painted aluminum wheels – $1,195
  • Premium Leather Package – $1,595
  • Sun and Sound Group Package – $2,595

The Premium Leather Package includes:

With every option selected plus the additional $1,595 destination charges, a fully loaded 2023 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk carries a $51,095 MSRP. However, Jeep’s Build and Price tool notes that this is an “estimated net selling price” and “does not constitute an offer.”
