Not many SUVs can come close to the level of luxury some BMW sport utility vehicles offer. The 2024 BMW X5 M Competition is powerful, full of technology, and the most fun you can have on your daily commute. With more than 600 horsepower and a zero to 60 mph time of 3.7 seconds, who needs a weekend car anymore?

How much horsepower does the BMW X5 M Competition have?

No matter how you slice it, the 2024 BMW X5 M Competition has plenty of power at 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The X6 M Competition also has the same 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. For 2024, both options are only available with the Competition model. These get a new V8 engine with 48V mild-hybrid technology.

BMW’s new 48V mild-hybrid technology is debuting in the BMW M along with the M TwinPower Turbo engine. The electric motor offers a nice boost, while the engine provides the same experience drivers have come to know and love from M cars. Utilizing the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission can add 12 hp of output and 147 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to that boost, the 2024 BMW X5 M Competition has quite instantaneous power.

“For the driver, this means extremely spirited and assured performance, both when accelerating off the line and during mid-range acceleration. “

The base MSRP for the X5 M Competition is $122,300, and the X6 M Competition is $127,200. Both options have a $995 destination and handling fee. Both versions have a top speed of 155 mph, but that does jump up to 177 mph with the M Driver’s Package.

BMW isn’t one to lag behind on technology features, so the 2024 BMW X5 M Competition comes pretty stacked. The newest BMW iDrive 8 Operating System offers safety systems and a more personalized infotainment experience. Using the BMW App offers things like remote start, tire pressure, and battery levels. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

The M-tuned xDrive all-wheel drive system comes ready for whatever situations you might encounter, along with M Drive with M Dynamic Mode and Hill Descent Control (HDC). The M chassis and suspension system offers a smooth and comfortable ride. The X5 M Competition also gets ventilated anti-lock disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors.

BMW’s new Active Driving Assistant includes many safety features like Frontal Collision Warning, Automatic City Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection. All of these systems help make the BMW X5 M safe and comfortable. BMW builds the 2024 X5 M in the United States at the Spartanburg Plant in South Carolina.

There is a regular version of the X5 and X6, too

If the BMW X5 M Competition is too much or out of budget, the 2024 BMW X5 and X6 might be a good alternative. Each version has a few trim levels, including the X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 xDrive50e, and X5 M60i xDrive. The X6 gets an xDrive40i and M60i xDrive trim. While these options range from $65,200 to $93,600, that’s still less expensive than both M trims.

If the BMW X5 M is your dream vehicle, nothing else will really compare. This is modern luxury at its best and most powerful, so don’t give up on those BMW SUV dreams yet.
