Firstly, the base model Sequoia SR5 comes with a 5.7-liter V8 engine. It can make up to 381 horsepower and 401 lb-ft of torque. Next, rear-wheel drive comes standard, but customers can buy four-wheel drive for $3,255. While that sounds expensive, it’s much more affordable than paying $15,000 more for the TRD Pro trim. TRD Pro models are the only ones that come standard with four-wheel drive, and RWD is unavailable.

Next, the Sequoia SR5 is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. All of this together manages the Sequoia to 13 city and 17 highway miles per gallon, which is less than ideal. However, it’s the price you’ll pay if you want a powerful V8 like the standard Sequoia engine. Not to mention, it boosts the Sequoia up to a towing capacity of 7,400 pounds.

Sequoia SR5: Features and technology

Although the starting price for the Sequoia is a little higher than the industry average, it’s surprisingly well-equipped. Every model comes with a 7.0-inch touchscreen, a USB media port, 2 USB charging ports, advanced voice recognition, hands-free phone capability, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Wi-Fi capability, and much more. Moving out from the high-tech infotainment system, the base model SR5 has even more.

Firstly, front bucket seats, a second-row bench seat, optional captain’s chairs, remote keyless entry, and more are all standard. More importantly than all the technology and features is safety. Every Sequoia comes with a blind spot monitor, forward collision mitigation, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and so much more. Keep peace of mind as you pack your entire family into this SUV, as it’s as safe as they come even in the base model SR5 trim.

Sequoia SR5: The price is much better than other trims

Although the 2022 Toyota Sequoia isn’t the most well-priced SUV on the market, the SR5 is the best option. Compared to other trim levels, it’s not even close. The next cheapest trim level is TRD Sport, and it’s nearly $3,000 more expensive after destination fees. You’d be surprised how little that extra cash gets you. You’re better off paying for 4WD and the Premium Package than upgrading to the next trim.

The 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5 costs $51,995 after destination fees. For the upper trim levels like TRD Pro and Platinum, you’ll have to spend $66,120 and $68,045, respectively. That’s an astronomical difference for the fanciest trim levels, similarly priced to the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon.

Should you buy a 2022 Toyota Sequoia SR5?

If you’re set on buying a 2022 model year Sequoia, the SR5 base model is the best choice. However, with the new generation of Sequoia right around the corner, it might be wise to hold off. The 2023 Toyota Sequoia received a complete redesign, including new trims, features, and a different overall style. If you like the current body and look of the Sequoia, grab a 2022 Toyota Sequoia while you can before they’re gone.
