The Apple Car has been in discussion for several years now. In typical fashion from the company, there have been no concrete details given, which has made people wonder if the mysterious vehicle, titled Project Titan, will ever arrive. There have been subtle drips of information about the car over the years, but no one knows what’s fact and what’s fiction regarding Apple joining the world of EVs. However, it seems Apple is hoping the car will join the ranks of the best self driving cars.

Here’s what we know about the long-awaited Apple car.

The rumored upcoming Apple Car might be one of the most mysterious vehicles in history. It has been discussed for the better part of a decade. However, the Tech giant has never officially admitted that the car exists. Still, the general consensus is that the car is real and that it could become one of the best self driving cars. If the rumors are true, Tim Cook approved the project in 2014.

People also have faith in the long awaited Apple Car because Tim Cook assigned the product to Steve Zadesky, a former Ford engineer. However, he left the company in 2016, and Keith Lynch is reportedly in charge now. Additionally, there have been several talks of Apple partnering with other automakers such as Volkswagen.

As far as a timeline goes, it’s anyone’s guess. MacRumors believes that the company is aiming for a 2026 release date, with official testing in 2025. As of 2020, reports surfaced that the company was working on self-driving software and hardware instead of an actual car. Fortunately, this does not seem to be the case. Still, there is no way of knowing as the project is top secret.

Plans for the Apple Car have reportedly changed. At first, the company planned for the car to have level 5 autonomy, which would easily make it one of the best self-driving cars. Initial rumors said it would lack a steering wheel and that it wouldn’t function like the average car. However, as the years have passed, Apple has scaled back the project.

The latest rumor is that the Apple Car will feature an autonomous driving mode for highways. However, other areas will require traditional driving. If this is the case, the Apple Car will be in the same league as other electric cars with self-driving capabilities. This version of the car is a far cry from initial rumors, but the prospect of having a vehicle from the maker of the iPhone is exciting.
