General Motors needs a ringer

General Motors is determined to compete with Ford and other major automakers in the electric vehicle space. Like most automakers, GM has plans to fully electrify its entire portfolio in the decades to come. This means more hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and EV nameplates for the entire industry.

Ford is already experiencing success in the small electric SUV segment and the full-size electric pickup truck segment. The Blue Oval has a clear winning strategy to introduce new EVs into its lineup and convince consumers to trust new electric vehicle technology. General Motors, on the other hand, has experienced plenty of controversy with one of its most popular electric vehicles. The Chevrolet Bolt small electric hatchback made an impact on the market when it first hit the scene. Years later, it became the target of one of the largest vehicle recalls that the industry has seen in this decade.

The Chevy Bolt was recalled because its battery could potentially overheat and catch fire. Chevrolet is reintroducing the Bolt and Bolt EUV small electric SUV after making some major changes to their batteries.

Since the Ford F-150 Lightning arrived before the Chevrolet Silverado EV General Motors needs a ringer to truly make a statement in the EV space. The Silverado EV RST final trim is impressive but costly. Chevy’s electric truck has to compete with heavy hitters. The GMC Hummer EV is a General Motors EV that is truly unique and practically unmatched because of its distinct design.

InsideEVs claims that General Motors has already closed Hummer EV reservation books after overwhelming demand. Consumers have reserved over 90,000 Hummer EV trucks and SUVs. The automaker will have its hands full fulfilling reservations.

The high number of reservations comes as a surprise to many drivers because of the Hummer EV’s pricing. The historic electric vehicle starts at around $108,700. The fact that 90,000 Americans placed reservations on an EV this expensive in our current economy is mind-boggling.
