Plenty of trucks and SUVs are going hybrid. However, the Ford Maverick Hybrid and Ford F-150 Hybrid prove that some options are more attractive than others. While the F-150 Hybrid struggles, the Maverick Hybrid can’t be stopped.

Why is the Ford Maverick Hybrid beating the Ford F-150 Hybrid?

Ford trucks had an excellent year in 2023 with plenty of sales and rampant demand. Ford has been increasing Ford Maverick production to keep up with demand. There aren’t enough hybrid models to go around.

However, the Ford F-150 Hybrid hasn’t been met with the same excitement. It’s the least popular option in the lineup.

Ford actually took steps to make the Maverick Hybrid a little harder to get. The hybrid engine used to be the standard option, but now you can upgrade to it for $1,500.

But with the F-150, Ford is making the hybrid engine easier to get by making it available at no extra cost over the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine.

The Maverick Hybrid accounted for 52,361 units out of 94,058 total Maverick sales for 2023. The F-150 Hybrid was responsible for 50,103 models out of 750,789 total F Series sales.

So, the Maverick Hybrid took up over half of the Maverick orders and the F-150 Hybrid represents a tiny piece of the pie.

But this could be due to reliability ratings. The 2023  Ford F-150 has a reliability rating of 78 out of 100, would could be due to failing hybrid batteries.

The 2023 Maverick has a reliability score of 85. Scores between 70 and 80 are average while scores between 81 and 90 are above average.

Also, the F-150 Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and up to 26 mpg on the highway. That’s impressive for a truck, but not mind-blowing. But the Mavierkc Hybrid gets an EPA-estimated 33 mpg on the highway and up to 40 mpg in the city.

Then there’s pricing. The 2024 Maverick Hybrid starts at $24,900. The F-150 Hybrid has an MSRP of $52,705. The Maverick starts at $23,400 and the F-150 starts at $36,570. The difference in prices to upgrade to hybrid power is insane.

Stay tuned because the F-150 Hybrid could turn things around as it becomes easier to get. But the Maverick Hybrid might be doing better because it’s more affordable, economical, and reliable.
