For most people, it’s a no-brainer to consider purchasing a Murano. However, deciding which version of the midsize SUV is the best option can be challenging. According to Edmunds, the most popular version of the 2023 Nissan Murano is the SV trim. Starting one slot above the base model at $38,495, it adds more equipment without breaking the bank and becoming unaffordable. As the most popular Murano, it’s clear that consumers think it’s the best version of the vehicle. However, not every expert believes customers are purchasing the best trim for the Nissan midsize SUV.

Edmunds’ best Murano trim

First, the experts at Edmunds recommend buying the 2023 Nissan Murano SL. It says this is the trim level where the midsize SUV really shines through. Most importantly, it swaps out the imitation leather upholstery for the real thing, then adds a hands-free tailgate, navigation, and an upgraded sound system. Sitting one spot above the most popular SV trim, the SL model costs $42,455. We think the monetary difference is more acceptable because of some of the other features the publication didn’t mention.

Every Murano SL also has driver’s seat memory settings, ambient interior lighting, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, navigation, an 11-speaker Bose audio system, and a surround-view camera parking system. Combined with lower trim features like remote start, blind-spot warning, lane departure mitigation, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, the SL model is nearing luxury status.

Since all models come with the same engine under the hood, features are the only reason to spend more. Every version of the Murano can also get front- or all-wheel drive.

Next, Car and Driver disagree with Edmunds about the best 2023 Nissan Murano trim. Instead, it agrees with consumers about which one to buy. C/D recommends the SV model, second in the lineup ahead of the base model. It says the midsize SUV hasn’t seen an update in a while, so avoiding the expensive trims is the best practice. Moreover, it likes the mixture of value for the price.

C/D says the Murano SV offers “a nice mix of style and substance at an appropriate price. Its standard highlights include adaptive cruise control, power-adjustable front seats with heat, and remote start.”

The publication also says it believes a new version will hit dealer lots for the 2024 model year. The automaker introduced the current generation of Nissan Murano in 2015. As a result, it’s approaching the decade mark without a proper redesign. As a result, it’s difficult to recommend committing to the more costly options when they’ll seem outdated soon.

Best 2023 Nissan Murano trim

In conclusion, we find it difficult to disagree with Car and Driver and consumers. The most popular 2023 Nissan Murano is also the best version of the midsize SUV to buy. Getting the SV trim means more value for less money. However, there’s more to it. Buying a new car is a commitment, and with a Murano redesign on the horizon, spending less is probably better. For many, it might be better to wait until the 2024 model year to see if a redesign is coming. At that time, we expect to see many upgrades to the Nissan SUV, like the possibility of a hybrid powertrain.
