Are you shopping for a new midsize SUV? One of the best options is the 2023 Nissan Murano. The automaker has a long history of making reliable, affordable models throughout its entire lineup. Moreover, the Murano SUV is no different. The latest version didn’t receive any significant changes, but it rolls over excellent value from the previous model year. Is buying the most expensive version of the Murano a good decision? Is a 2023 Nissan Murano Platinum worth the price?

These affordable midsize SUVs for 2023 include the Nissan Murano, is it worth the price?

According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Nissan Murano S base model starts at $34,955. Moreover, buyers of all trim levels get a 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 260 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, all models in the lineup are available with front- and all-wheel drive. Next, the cheapest version (and every other trim) come with some excellent basic driver aids and amenities. For example, forward collision mitigation, blind-spot warning, automatic rear braking, lane departure mitigation, and rear parking sensors.

Moving up the lineup to the SV trim costs $38,495, a $4,000 jump from the base model. Furthermore, the same can be said of the two range-topping trims, which cap out at $46,505 for the Platinum model. Although no Murano is severely overpriced, does it provide enough value in its top trim for the money to feel worth it? Regardless, the SV and SL trims are well-equipped and might be enough for many consumers without breaking the bank for the top trim of the midsize SUV.

2023 Nissan Murano Platinum standard features

The 2023 Nissan Murano Platinum is well-equipped thanks to lower trims. It comes with most of the equipment included with the cheaper three models. This includes highlights like remote engine start, heated front seats, simulated leather upholstery, front parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a hands-free tailgate, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, driver’s seat memory, navigation, and a Bose audio system. However, far fewer additions enter the lineup with the Platinum trim.

The only exclusive features of the Murano Platinum are a panoramic sunroof, a power-adjustable steering wheel, ventilated front seats, upgraded leather, and NissanConnect emergency services. In short, these features cost an extra $4,000 over the SL trim level. Additionally, SL trim owners can choose to add a panoramic sunroof as an option.

Is the Murano Platinum worth the price?

Overall, we don’t think the 2023 Nissan Murano Platinum is worth the price. Although it adds some excellent features, there aren’t enough of them to make it worth it. For nearly $50,000, the Murano is a luxurious midsize SUV with some seriously excellent attributes. However, every model comes with a potent V6 engine, can be optioned with AWD, and provides excellent ride quality. Furthermore, the SL trim is almost as well-equipped, and the optional panoramic sunroof makes it nearly as valuable as the Platinum for less cost.

That’s why experts like Edmunds and Car and Driver don’t recommend the top trim either. Edmunds says the SL trim is the way to go, as it gets leather upholstery, a hands-free tailgate, navigation, and a Bose sound system. C/D disagrees, recommending the SV model for its “mix of style and substance at an appropriate price.”
