The 2022 Rivian R1T is the first mass-produced electric truck available to consumers. The company behind Amazon’s upcoming fleet of electric vans has received the cosign and backing of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Now that the electric truck is finally out, here’s everything you need to know about the Rivian R1T.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is the first of many electric trucks

The term “electric truck” almost seems oxymoronic to many truck enthusiasts. Fans of trucks powered by mighty V8 engines like generations of the Toyota Tundra don’t know what to think of a truck with a quiet powertrain. The 2022 Rivian R1T is proving that electric trucks can do just about anything a gas-powered truck can. The R1T has even tackled the notorious Hell’s Gate trail.

Rivian was founded in 2009, several years after the emergence of Tesla, one of its biggest competitors. Back in 2019, Amazon CEO and Founder Jeff Bezos announced that he had struck a deal with the electric delivery van startup Rivian. Bezos intended on using Rivian’s vehicles to attain carbon neutrality two decades from now.

Just recently, Bezos drove the Rivian R1S electric SUV to the Blue Origin launch pad before casually visiting space (as billionaires tend to do). Rivian has now been seen by the world because of the Blue Origin launch and is quickly becoming a household name among auto enthusiasts, but with great expectations comes great scrutiny. Luckily for Rivian, the 2022 R1T is truly something special.

The 2022 Rivian R1T is the first of Rivian’s adventure vehicles. Functionality and capability are huge factors to the company, and its EVs are capable of everything from smooth daily driving to off-roading and camping. The Rivian R1T comes in three different battery ranges. The R1T will come in a 250-mile range, 314-mile range, and 400+ mile range option when all models are rolled out.

The Rivian R1T uses a quad motor system that allows it to go from 0-60 miles per hour in an astonishing three seconds. The R1T has a maximum towing capacity of 11,000 pounds. It comes with four 120-volt outlets and two 12-volt outlets.

The Rivian R1T is game-changing. If consumers respond well to this electric truck, the brand could quickly gain more potential buyers and fans. Rivian is carving out a new niche market in the truck vehicle class: the electric adventure truck.

Rivian highlights the 2022 Rivian R1T’s speed, power, and off-road capabilities marketing the vehicle as fun and capable of adventuring in the great outdoors. According to Car and Driver, the R1T starts at around $68,145, so not everyone will be able to enjoy the electric truck. Its pricing has given it exclusivity. The next few months are crucial as orders are fulfilled, and the first electric truck is put to the test.
