A few electric tunes are changing. As electric car sales decrease and interest in EVs starts to fade, some automakers are revising their EV plans. For example, the 2025 Jeep Recon EV might add a gas-powered engine.

For now, the 2025 Jeep Recon is purely an electric vehicle. However, this SUV isn’t here yet and there is time to make some changes.

Jeep CEO, Antonio Filolsa has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to return Jeep sales to roughly one million annual sales across the globe.

While his strategy includes improving reliability and dealership relationships, the freedom of choice among engines is also on the table. This is a result of the turbulent transition in the EV space.

Filosa shared that the Jeep Wagoneer S will remain fully electric, but there is flexibility with the Recon, which rides on the diverse STLA platform. The platform provides tons of possibilities for ICE, hybrid, and electric powertrains.

Stellantis EVs do have a growing market share, but the growth is too slow to justify previous levels of investments. In other markets, the Jeep Aveneger and the Fiat 600e have both received a hybrid powertrain after starting with only electric options.

Filosa shared that while Stellantis remains committed to its electrification strategy, there are opportunities to consider with the Recon. It’s analyzing additional options for the 2025 Jeep Recon, which is currently only available as a battery electric SUV.

Basically, Stellantis is looking at the demand for a hybrid, PHEV, or ICE Recon powertrain. If it goes hybrid, it would join the Jeep Wrangler 4xe and the Grand Cherokee 4xe.

The Wrangler 4xe and Grand Cherokee 4xe were the top-selling PHEV (plug-in hybrid) models in America for 2022 and 2023.

Giving people the freedom of choice with various powertrains sounds like an excellent way to boost sales. Plus, Stellantis is already planning for the next Wrangler generation to be available with hybrid and electric powertrains.

The 2025 Jeep Recon may launch as an electric SUV and a hybrid unit could be added later. Rumors suggest that the Recon has 373 miles of range with 600 hp, which is a great start. It will debut in America by the end of 2024, so stay tuned for updates.
