The Ford F-150 Lightning is the most popular electric pickup truck on American roads today. It is the second mass-produced electric pickup truck to hit the streets behind the Rivian R1T. The F-150 Lightning could become wildly popular in the next few years. Why do cyclists seem to like the F-150 Lightning so much?

The Ford F-150 Lightning is especially useful outdoors

Ford’s electric pickup truck comes with unique features that are only possible thanks to its electric powertrain. F-150 Lightning models have exportable power. The degree of this exportable power depends on the F-150 Lightning trim, but all F-150 Lightning models can charge and power devices and appliances via different power outlets in the Mega Power Frunk, truck bed, and cabin.

According to Bicycling.com, the F-150 Lightning is great for cyclists because it can charge electric bikes via the truck bed and at trailheads. So, cyclists that enjoy using electric bikes on trails can get even more utility out of Ford’s first-ever electric pickup truck.

Part of the F-150 Lightning’s overall appeal is its ability to act as a power source. Though this isn’t a feature that’s exclusive to Ford’s electric truck, the Blue Oval has done the best job of marketing this feature thus far.

The F-150 Lightning is a Swiss Army Knife that shines outdoors when you need power in a pinch. Ford devoted an entire YouTube short video series to the F-150 Lightning’s Mega Power Frunk. The electric truck’s many outlets shouldn’t be its main selling point, but it certainly does make the pickup more interesting than many internal combustion engine trucks.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is leading the charge for electric pickup trucks

The Ford F-150 Lightning is a game-changer for Ford because it is proving that there’s a demand for American electric pickup trucks. The innovative EV amassed a huge number of pre-orders.

General Motors will compete with the Ford F-150 Lightning by producing an electric truck of its own, the Chevy Silverado EV. The Rivian R1T is capable, but it’s far too expensive for the average consumer to be a major threat to Ford’s pickup.

Ram is working on an electric truck of its own as well. Ford won’t dominate the market forever, but it has already made a huge impact on the electric truck space. The question is, should you get one?

The 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 12.0-inch digital productivity screen, cruise control, and post-collision braking. It also includes a lane-keeping system, heated front seats, and 2.4kW of exportable power.

The F-150 Lightning is much more expensive after recent price bumps. If you can snag a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning, it’s an incredible truck, but is it worth its high starting price for the average driver? Not quite.
