While some people might associate large SUVs like the Chevy Tahoe with America, South Korea wants to change that. GM is working hard to expand Chevrolet’s presence in Korea by expanding the SUV lineup alongside the electric vehicles.

This January, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe officially launched in Korea for the first time, the GM press release says. The iconic SUV has never been in South Korea before as the country tends to focus on smaller, more compact vehicles. All that has changed now as the Chevy Tahoe is slated to become the new flagship SUV for the carmaker.

“The Chevrolet Tahoe, with its unmatched presence, is the flagship SUV model of the Chevrolet brand. The Tahoe complements the already extensive lineup of SUVs from Chevrolet and will offer our Korean customers more choice.” GM

Chevrolet plans to work on “expanding domestic customer choice, range and experience along with new Equinox.” Orders for the Tahoe opened up in January, and deliveries should start as early as next month. The Chevy brand will be the first brand in Korea to offer a variety of SUV sizes. The automaker will provide small SUVs up to the extra-large Chevy Tahoe.

There has been a recent increase in outdoor activities that have changed the needs of Korean customers. The Tahoe can be used for camping, yachting, and kayaking to carry all kinds of equipment that might not fit in a more compact SUV.

The Chevy Tahoe will help establish a new domestic SUV segment

The Chevrolet brand created the compact SUV segment in Korea and plans to continue with that trend along with the 2022 Chevy Tahoe. The automaker wants to establish a new and more significant domestic SUV segment. The Chevrolet Trax was one of the first small SUVs to be developed and released in Korea. It has also been popular in other markets.

After that, the Trailblazer SUV has been one of the brand’s best-selling models. Chevrolet calls it a “semi-medium, high-end, and premium compact SUV.” The team in Korea spearheaded that development cycle. After that, the midsize Equinox will hit the markets sometime in the first half of the year.

In February, the Traverse large SUV hit the Korean markets. For this version, the interior and exterior got an upgrade to suit the needs of this market better. Chevrolet also added more convenience features to the full-size SUV.

This is part of a new Chevrolet strategy that includes electric vehicles

GM has an exciting strategy to strengthen the SUV presence in Korea and the Chevy Tahoe is a major part of the strategy. The automaker is working on a two-track approach to boost its portfolio in the area. “This is increasing its overall brand value with a mix of premium domestically produced and imported products,” Chevy noted.

The plan includes bringing a few electric vehicles to the market by 2025, including the new Bolt EV and Bolt EUV sedans. After that, there are hopes to bring more of the Chevy Colorado pickup truck to the market. Since its introduction, it has been a hit.

Adding the Trailblazer and Chevy Tahoe will only bring more options to the market. There are more than 400 service centers throughout Korea, more than any other imported brand. Get ready to see a lot more Tahoes rolling around the country of Korea!
