The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon Are Consumer Reports Least Satisfying Trucks Again
It is no secret that the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2022 GMC Canyon are popular trucks, just not with everyone. Consumer Reports found these compact pickup trucks were lacking in a few areas.
The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado didn’t satisfy Consumer Reports owners

GM calls the 2022 Chevrolet Colorado a small truck, while Consumer Reports put it in the compact truck and midsize truck categories. Whichever category it lands it, the truck left a lot to be desired. The 2022 Colorado made the Consumer Reports list of least satisfying trucks.
Looking a bit more into detail, CR gave it a 45 out of 100 overall. It did OK on the road test with 61 out of 100, but it fell off from there. The predicted reliability score was a two out of five. The predicted owner satisfaction was only one out of five, explaining its low satisfaction score.
While it isn’t the best truck out there, the Colorado does have its benefits. It is easy to park and has responsive handling. The Chevrolet truck also gets 18 mpg overall, but that goes up to 24 mpg with the diesel. It has a quiet cabin and can tow up to 7,000 pounds.
The 2022 GMC Canyon is a similar compact pickup truck with similar issues
Since the 2022 GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado are twins, a lot of the same applies to this truck. The Canyon truck has a 1,555-pound payload and the towing goes up to 7,700-pounds with the diesel. Consumer Reports notes that is more than the Nissan Frontier or Toyota Tacoma can tow.
Unfortunately, the Canyon’s 308 hp V6 just doesn’t have enough torque on the low-end side. That’s pretty important for truck owners who actually tow on a regular basis, and might make this a bad choice for such buyers. The diesel is a bit better but even with all of the improvements, the 2022 GMC Canyon is just lacking.
The interior is alright, but nothing to write home about. Consumer Reports says the seats aren’t comfortable and the steering wheel doesn’t telescope enough for all drivers. Add that to all of the rest of it, and there are just better trucks out there.
What is a more satisfying pickup truck for 2022?
Coming in at number one on the list of compact pickup trucks, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline exceeded expectations. Based on the feedback from owners, the Ridgeline has the highest owner satisfaction among all of the midsize pickup trucks. It scored well on the road test and has an above-average rating for the predicted reliability. The Honda truck is more like an SUV hiding in a truck body, which seems to be the best of both worlds.
The 2022 Chevrolet Colorado and the 2022 GMC Canyon managed to make the Consumer Reports list of least satisfying trucks again this year.
Some potential truck buyers might not care about a truck being satisfying or not. Consumer Reports says that if you need a full-size truck to perform full-size truck duties on a regular basis, a bigger option might be a better choice. These trucks are considered more midsize and compact and that matches the truck’s abilities.
