The 2023 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing recently gained a new badge to differentiate it from other V-series cars. As the General Motors luxury marque continues to add exclusivity to its premier sports sedan, some options are getting more expensive. For extra curb appeal, Cadillac is offering a new, limited-edition paint color. Yet, the figure for the hue may come as a surprise, and not in a good way.

GM Authority reported that Cadillac announced last year the 2023 CT5-V Blackwing would be offered in two unique colors. A $3,925 Dark Emerald Frost and Maverick Noir Frost Matte Black. But the black hue wasn’t a few thousand like the decadent green, but over twice as much. Getting a brand-new CT5-V Blackwing in Maverick Noir Frost will cost $8,120.

The nifty paint hue is exclusive to particular interior finishes as well. For instance, Jet Black with Jet Black accents, Natural Tan with Jet Black accents, and Sky Cool Gray with Jet Black accents.

Charging over $8,000 for a paint job on a factory product is significant, especially when the car is as much as it is. The baseline figure to step into the supercharged, 668-horsepower sedan is already $90,995. And that’s before the tasteful options list that can send the Cadillac well into six figures in a jiffy.

The option isn’t available yet on Cadillac’s build configurator. However, there are many color eye-catching colors.

Black Raven and Summit White are included in the base MSRP. For $625 more, potential buyers can get Argent Silver, Blaze Orange, Electric Blue, Midnight Steel, Rift, and Wave metallic colors. The brilliant Radiant Red Tintcoat, however, is $1,225. Nevertheless, those paint colors probably won’t need extra special attention like the matte finishes.

Special care for matte-finish cars

A matte finish isn’t like a traditional car exterior paint finish. They don’t shine in the sun like the latter but appear stealthy, which is perfect for the 2023 CT5-V Blackwing. One painted in Maverick Noir Frost resembles something Darth Vader would drive if he needed a family sedan. Yet, even Vader wouldn’t be able to take it through an automated car wash.

A matte finish isn’t optimal for those who don’t dream of hand-washing a car in the driveway. Vehicles that have matte paint finishes are strictly hand washed only. And that doesn’t mean one can grab a bucket, a sponge, and a bottle of dish soap. Considering kitchen detergents and dish soaps can strip ancient bacon grease off a griddle, it isn’t the best for matte finish. It will break down the finish’s protective layer.

Most standard automotive cleaning products contain wax, yet another enemy of matte. Wax will fill in the natural imperfections that give a matte finish its stealthy look. Therefore, CT5-V Blackwing owners with matte-finished cars will have to spend time choosing the correct cleaning materials for their CT5-V Blackwings. While it may give some joy to care for their vehicles so intimately, $8,120 is still a pretty penny to pay for it.
