The 2022 GMC Yukon XL and the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban are very similar. In fact, they used to be pretty much the same SUV, as years ago the Suburban was known as the GMC Suburban. Now the GMC Yukon XL is the more luxurious version of the Chevrolet Suburban, though much between them, including their platform, is the same.

So how can you decide between the 2022 GMC Yukon XL and the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban? It largely comes down to materials used and the price. If you’re not into things like premium materials, gadgets, and features, the Chevy Suburban is a great three-row extra-large SUV. If, on the other hand, you want to feel like you’re riding in a luxury vehicle without coughing up the money for a Cadillac Escalade, the Yukon XL may be a perfect fit.

There are three available engine options for the 2022 GMC Yukon XL. These include a 5.3-liter V8 engine that makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. According to Edmunds, this is the standard engine on the SLE, SLT, and AT4. There is also a 6.2-liter that is capable of 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. This is optional on the Yukon XL AT4 and standard on the Yukon XL Denali. Finally, there is a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine optional on the SLE, SLT, and Denali, that is capable of 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. Each of these engine options are matched to a 10-speed transmission. The AT4 comes standard with four-wheel drive, but it’s only optional on the other trim levels.

How much does the Chevrolet Suburban cost?

The 2022 Chevy Suburban starts at $52,400. There are a whole variety of 2022 Chevrolet Suburban trim levels to choose from, and packages to add on. The 2022 Chevy Suburban LS is the base model, and it costs $54,095, according to Edmunds. The 2022 Suburban LS comes with the same 5.3-liter V8 engine as in the 2022 GMC Yukon XL. It also makes 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque and is matched to a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2022 Chevy Suburban LS also comes with LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2022 Chevrolet Suburban also comes with an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment screen and a whole slew of safety features including forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.

Both the 2022 GMC Yukon XL and the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban are great extra-large SUVs. If you have to choose one,, the Chevy Suburban is the same solid SUV for less money. If you want a touch of luxury though, you’ll probably be happy with the Yukon XL.
