The 2020 Nissan Titan is here, and it isn’t getting much love from critics. It’s got a lot going against it, and the expensive price tag isn’t helping matters. Perhaps that’s why no one wants to buy the new Nissan Titan. Even though it made U.S. News lists of full-size trucks that are cheapest to buy, there’s still a lot wrong with the Titan.
What the 2020 Nissan Titan got right
While the 2020 Nissan Titan has more than its fair share of problems, there are a few things that it has going for it. There is a long list of features that help the Nissan Titan stand out from the crowd.
One of the biggest factors that play to the Titan’s favor is its engine. It comes equipped with a V8 engine that gets 400 hp. That being said, it is the only engine option, meaning that consumers have fewer choices.
A nine-speed automatic transmission helps the Titan’s V8 engine get plenty of acceleration. Rear-wheel drive comes standard, but it’s possible to upgrade to 4WD.
The warranty is another big draw for many potential owners. Nissan offers a class-leading 5-year/100,000-mile warranty that most other automakers wouldn’t even consider offering.
There are some other areas that keep the Titan from sinking into obscurity as well. While the interior is lackluster at best, there are plenty of safety features thanks to Nissan’s Safety Shield 360 bundle. Some of those features include automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and pedestrian detection.
The 2020 Nissan Titan fails in a few key areas
The fuel economy is probably one of the worst areas for the Nissan Titan. It has an EPA-estimated 16 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway for Titans that come with rear-wheel drive. For those who opt for the four-wheel-drive model, the Titan gets a measly 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway.
The interior is another problem area. It’s not terrible. It’s also not great. U.S. News stated, “In an era where many full-size trucks exhibit a luxurylike interior quality, the Titan feels a little underwhelming. There are some nice materials, but hard and low-rent plastics overshadow them in most areas.”
The undeniable biggest problem for the Titan is the price, however. It has a starting price of $36,190. That’s not cheap by any means, especially for a starting price. It’s also the highest starting price of any other full-size truck in the division, which makes many competitors look much more attractive to consumers.
You can do better than this
If you’re looking for a new full-size truck, there is no lack of options. In fact, you might have a harder time deciding which one to buy rather than trying to find a good truck. With that said, the 2020 Nissan Titan should be near the bottom of your list.
The legendary Ford F-150 is a great choice that should be near the top of your list. For one thing, there are a ton of options. No matter what your needs are, you’ll be able to customize your F-150 to meet them.
There are six available engines, three cab styles, three cargo bed lengths, and a choice between rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. These are available on most trims. The best part of the F-150 is that it starts at $28,495.
Another great option is the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The fuel economy is far superior to the Titan; the Silverado gets 23 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.
It also has some of the best towing capability in the truck division. The Silverado can tow up to 13,400 lbs when equipped with the 6.2-liter EcoTec3 V8 engine and the towing package is added on. Add in a starting price of $28,000, making it significantly cheaper than the 2020 Nissan Titan, and it’s clear that there are much better choices out there for anyone looking for a truck.
