He had parked his Tesla Model X in the parking garage but realized, upon attempting to leave, that his car wouldn’t start. The garage was so far underground that his EV wouldn’t connect to Wi-Fi. Because he was stranded without a signal, he couldn’t access the Tesla app either. Howerton said, “it sent me into a rage.”
Howerton ended up taking an Uber home, leaving his Model X in the garage. He returned the next day, spending more than 20 minutes trying to get the fob to connect without success. He had to walk up to the ground level to call for help from AAA. But even trying to put his Tesla into tow mode wouldn’t work, all rooted in a lack of signal. It’s a lesson learned for Howerton, who won’t be parking below ground level anytime soon. But it also serves as a warning to other Tesla owners to be mindful of having a strong Wi-Fi signal.
