The 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat is the final Maverick trim. It’s in the same price range as the GMC Canyon. Here are three reasons why you should buy a 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat instead of a GMC Canyon.

The 2022 Ford Maverick Lariat comes with tons of standard features

The main reason to choose the Maverick Lariat final trim over the GMC Canyon’s base model is the Lariat’s many standard features. The Maverick Lariat comes with added creature comforts.

The small pickup truck features ActiveX high-end synthetic seating material seats, bucket front seats, and a full bench rear folding seatback.

The Maverick Lariat also includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote keyless entry, and a 12-volt powerpoint in the front of the truck’s cabin. It features ambient lighting, a cabin particulate air filter, and cruise control. Ford also offers plenty of optional add-ons to make the Maverick Lariat even more comfortable and capable.

The Ford Maverick Lariat starts at $25,860. The GMC Canyon starts at $26,800. The Canyon base model does not include a leather-trimmed steering wheel, seat upgrades, or cruise control. In this case, the more affordable model has more standard features.

The 2022 Ford Maverick dominates small truck rankings

The Maverick may be a newcomer to the industry, but its innovative design has made a huge impact. The tiny pickup tops many small truck ranking lists from publications like CarBuzz. Many experts consider the Maverick to be the best small truck for 2022 because it brings something completely different to the table than other trucks.

It’s one of the few small trucks that consumers can consider as a sedan alternative. Its size and affordability make it appealing to drivers who may have never considered purchasing a truck before.

The Ford Maverick is doing well in small truck rankings because its simplicity makes it popular. Drivers in big cities like San Fransico and L.A. are buying the pickup because it fits the big city lifestyle in ways that most other trucks cannot. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is the Maverick’s closest competitor, and it isn’t touching the tiny truck’s gas mileage or affordability.

As far as the subcompact vehicle segment goes, the Maverick is dominating. It’s giving compact trucks a run for their money as well because of the value it provides.

The Maverick Lariat makes the GMC Canyon look like a gas guzzler

The GMC Canyon achieves 20 miles per gallon in the city and 30 miles per gallon on the highway. That’s not too shabby at all. That being said, the Maverick’s standard hybrid powertrain makes it extremely tough to compete with. The Blue Oval’s small truck gets an incredible 42 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway.

A Honda Civic gets fewer miles per gallon than the Ford Maverick. Did somebody say sedan alternative? The Canyon isn’t necessarily a gas guzzler, but the Maverick makes it look like one in comparison. The final reason to buy a Maverick Lariat over the GMC Canyon is because of all the money you’ll save on gas. Car and Driver gave the Maverick a 9/10 overall score.
