The German automaker known as Volkswagen seems to be putting up pretty good sales numbers in the U.S. market in recent quarters. The most popular Volkswagen models for the manufacturer where 2023 sales numbers are concerned are all SUVs. Here’s a look at the three most popular Volkswagen models so far in 2023.

Volkswagen seems to be having a pretty good year when it comes to sales numbers. In fact, there seems to be a slight increase when comparing 2022 sales figures to 2023 sales figures. According to GoodCarBadCar, Volkswagen’s 2023 year-to-date sales total up to 289,310 units sold. This is nearly a 30,000-unit increase compared to the 259,970 units that were sold during the first two quarters of 2022.

Additional data from GoodCarBadCar shows that the three best-selling VW models in both 2022 and 2023 were the Tiguan, Taos, and Atlas. Of these three SUVs, the midsize sporty Tiguan put up the most sales numbers in both 2022 and 2023. Data collected from the U.S. market shows that 19,037 Tiguan units, 14,043 Atlas units, and 13,724 Taos units were sold during Q2 2023.

Unfortunately for Volkswagen, its three most popular 2023 units all seem to be seeing a slight decrease in sales throughout the U.S. market compared to 2022. The data indicate that 19,503 Tiguan units, 17,595 Atlas units, and 14,281 Taos units were sold during Q2 2022.

It’s easy to see why consumers are showing love for the Volkswagen Tiguan, Atlas, and Taos, as all three VW models provide the practicality of a reliable SUV and the brand recognition of a Volkswagen. Of course, consumers seem to be loving the 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan the most out of these three SUVs. The Tiguan is a midsize sporty SUV that provides crisp handling and a roomy interior to its users, with seating for seven and up to 73.4 cu. ft. of cargo capacity.

The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan is available in four various trims, including S, SE, SE R-Line Black, and SEL R-Line. Volkswagen starts the baseline S Tiguan at an MSRP of $26,950. In contrast, the highest SEL R-Line trim has an MSRP of $37,680. Under the hood of the Tiguan, a four-cylinder turbocharged engine that makes 184 hp can be found. One of the main drawbacks of the Tiguan is that the third row is quite small, and when in place, there are only 12 cubic feet of cargo space available in the load area.

Here’s what the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and 2023 Volkswagen Taos have to offer

Following up the Volkswagen Tiguan in popularity are the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas and the 2023 Volkswagen Taos. Slightly larger than the Tiguan, the Atlas is a spacious midsize SUV that provides up to 96.8 cu. ft. of cargo space compared to the Tiguan’s 73.4 cu. ft. of cargo capacity. The Atlas also offers more power to consumers than the Tiguan, with a turbocharged inline-four engine that produces 269 hp.

The 2024 Volkswagen Atlas is available in six various trim levels, including the SE, SE with Technology, Peak Edition SE with Technology, SEL, Peak Edition SEL, and the SEL Premium R-Line. Volkswagen lists the starting price of an Atlas at the baseline SE trim at $37,725.

Moving on from the specs of the Atlas, let’s take a look at the 2023 Volkswagen Taos. The Taos is a subcompact SUV, smaller than both the Atlas and Tiguan. The Taos is powered by a 1.5L four-cylinder engine that makes 158 hp. This VW model is available in three various trim levels, including S, SE, and SEL. Volkswagen offers the baseline Atlas S trim at an MSRP of $24,155.

It’s no surprise that all of these models are selling well so far this year, and VW is certainly hopeful that the momentum carries on.
