There’s no denying just how popular SUVs are in the United States. For nearly two decades, SUVs have outsold cars among shoppers, and it does not look like that will change any time soon. Whether it be a family vehicle, a 4×4, or something else, these might be the best used SUVs for less than $30,000 in 2023.

Is getting a used SUV worth it?

Depending on what you pick, a used SUV can be a good get. Modern SUVs come in all shapes and sizes. These range from compact crossovers to full-size SUVs. But new vehicles have become pretty expensive. Because of that, a lot of folks opt to look at the used market.

Pre-owned SUVs allow shoppers within a certain budget to find something that truly works. But to be clear, I am not saying these three models are the only ones that should be considered. Just that they might make a solid value proposition in terms of cost and reliability.

These SUVs range from brands like Mazda to Lexus, which means you can get something that feels fairly luxurious. So, let’s take a look at the best used SUVs for under $30,000.

3. 2019 Mazda CX-5

One thing that Mazda has done consistently well is driving dynamics. Even when I got the chance to drive the 2023 Mazda CX-50, I found it to handle and perform well. Which is not something that SUVs are always lauded for. A 2019 Mazda CX-5 can come outfitted with a 250-hp engine and can be had on a budget.

There are a few downsides to note, though. Until 2020 and 2021, respectively, safety tech and things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not made standard. Still, the 2019 CX-5 does have a lot going for it. It even has an estimated driving range of about 414 miles.

2. 2020 Nissan Rogue

In recent years, the Nissan Rogue SUV has started to become its own. But, it does still remain an affordable option, especially on the used market. With the kind of budget we are discussing here, you should be able to find a fairly well-equipped Rogue from the 2020 model year.

It comes with a roomy interior. And as a crossover, it also offers legitimate efficiency.

1. 2019 Lexus NX

The reliable Lexus NX is a luxury SUV with the looks to boot. You might be able to find a hybrid model at this price, but if you are looking for something with pep, the 235-hp turbocharged engine might be the better bet.

Because Lexus is a part of the Toyota family, the perceived reliability of these vehicles is high – even if the Lexus NX does not offer the same driving dynamics as the BMW X1.

This SUV is certainly not for everyone. But it is out there if you want something more premium than the Nissan Rogue or Mazda CX-5. Its initial MSRP is around $36,000, but on the used market, it is cheaper.
