Hybrid vehicles are more efficient, right? Well, in some cases, like with the Toyota Land Cruiser, hybrid vehicles can still be pretty thirsty. While the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has a more efficient power delivery and lower emissions, it may require more frequent stops at the gas station than expected.

How many mpg does the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser get?

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser gets an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city, up to 25 mpg on the highway, and 23 mpg combined.

This is an improvement over the outgoing model, which only gets about 13 mpg in the city and up to 17 mpg on the highway.

For comparison’s sake, the 2024 Ford Bronco gets an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and up to 22 mpg on the highway. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has an all-electric range of about 22 miles and gets roughly 49 MPGe.

Also, the Land Cruiser can hold about 23 gallons of gas. Math isn’t my strong suit, but multiplying 23 mpg by 23 gallons comes to 529.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser off-roading

Going roughly 500 miles between fill-ups sounds excellent. Some Wrangler 4xe owners have reported going over 900 miles between fill-ups.

The new Toyota Land Cruiser packs a punch with its turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electric motor and a 1.87 kWh battery pack that generates 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. The Wrangler 4xe provides 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.

When properly equipped, the 2024 Land Cruiser can tow up to 6,000 lbs. The Wrangler 4xe can tow up to 3,500 lbs and the regular Wrangler can tow up to 5,000 lbs. The 2024 Bronco maxes out at 3,500 lbs, but the Raptor can tow 4,500 lbs.

The word Hybrid may have you expecting better fuel economies, but the Land Cruiser is an off-roader. Other hybrid SUVs receive better results because they are more aerodynamic and aren’t as heavy.

However, the new Land Cruiser is slightly more efficient than its off-roading rivals, and the Wrangler 4xe has an unfair advantage by being a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
