Production has begun on the 2022 Ford Lightning, and it’s pretty much all anyone can talk about. At the same time, there’s another electric pickup truck around the corner, and it’s rapidly gaining interest. It’s the 2024 Ram 1500 BEV, and while there aren’t many official details about it, there are enough rumors that we can get a sort-of-vague picture of what it’s going to be like. Perhaps most interesting? It’s thought to cost more than the highly coveted 2022 Ford Lightning. Here’s the price the Ram electric truck is likely to be released at, and how that compares to the Ford Lightning.

The 2022 Ford Lightning is pretty affordable for an electric truck

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning price starts at $39,974. That’s for the Ford Lightning Pro, which is the base model electric Ford truck. The Lightning comes with a 98 kWh battery and can go 230 miles on a single charge. It also has Ford’s suite of safety features known as Co-Pilot360. In addition, an extended range 131 kWh battery available, which Ford says can take the Lightning up to 300 miles on a single charge. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro also has a 12-inch touchscreen.

How much is the 2024 Ram 1500 BEV likely to cost?

The 2024 Ram 1500 BEV is likely to cost around $45,000, according to Car and Driver. It will be built on Ram’s new platform. The electric Ram pickup truck should get up to 500 miles on a single charge which will make it extremely competitive. To counter other trucks’ abilities it should also be able to tow more than 10,000 pounds, which will make it attractive to traditional truck fans. In addition, the Ram electric truck is rumored to be able to charge quickly up to 150 kWh.

These prices aren’t set in stone

Of course, it isn’t as though the price of the 2022 Ford Lightning will be the same in 2024, when the Ram electric truck comes out. So will it be higher than the 2024 Ram 1500 BEV? It’s possible. Right now though, the Ram electric truck looks like it’s going to be pricier than the Ford electric truck. How will that affect sales? It may not be the deciding factor, as the Ram’s projected range is roughly double that of the Lightning (assuming the Lightning’s range doesn’t increase by much over the next two years). No matter what the pricing of these two electric trucks is in the future, it’s sure to be a competitive battle between the two for domination – and that’s without even considering how the Chevy Silverado EV will play into this.

The 2024 Ram electric truck price may not be officially announced yet, but we have a pretty good guess at what it will be. It’s clear that Ram will be setting up its electric pickup for success, and the contest in the electric pickup truck market will be something exciting to watch. No matter which truck ends up on top, this can only mean good things for the electric vehicle expansion.
