When it comes to midsize trucks, this segment gets pretty competitive. These smaller pickups might not be as capable as their full-size counterparts, but they do bring a lot to the table. For the month of May, there are some pretty big changes coming to two midsize trucks. The 2024 Toyota Tacoma and 2024 Ford Ranger are getting official reveals.

The redesigned Ford Ranger is coming

On May 10th, 2023, the 2024 Ford Ranger is finally going to be revealed in the United States. When the Blue Oval reintroduced its midsize truck in the States for the 2019 model year, we actually got the previous generation. So on the global market, folks have already been able to experience the new Ranger.

The other big news is that we will actually be getting the Ford Ranger Raptor. If you are familiar with Ford, you probably know about the F-150 Raptor and Bronco Raptor. On the global market, the Blue Ovals smaller truck has gotten the Raptor treatment for some time. Now, we’re going to see what this performance pickup is all about.

It’s expected the 2024 Ranger Raptor will make around 290 horsepower and 430 pound-foot of torque. But come Wednesday, we should get confirmation of the specifics. Either way, the Ranger Raptor has definitely been long-awaited here in the States.

The 2024 Toyota Tacoma is expected on May 19th

On May 19th, Toyota will be officially revealing the 2024 Tacoma. Although, if you’ve been paying attention online, you might notice that some images from the brand have already been leaked.

The redesigned Tacoma will mark the first true update since 2016, although 2020 did bring a facelift for this midsize truck. Much like the Ranger, the Toyota Tacoma can feel a bit dated. But that doesn’t seem to stop folks from loving it.

The Toyota Tacoma has long been one of the most popular small pickups on the market. And even though its reveal date is after the Ford Ranger’s, I feel that the Tacoma will remain a top seller. Especially as Toyota has confirmed this truck will retain its manual transmission, and we are getting a new Trailhunter trim.

The 2024 Tacoma and 2024 Ranger are two midsize trucks to watch

With the redesigned Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon, midsize pickups are certainly becoming more modern. The 2024 Tacoma might be the truck benefiting the most buzz at this point, but that could change once the Blue Oval unveils the Ranger.

According to Edmunds, the new Toyota Tacoma will offer both a manual transmission and a hybrid powertrain. That option for hand-made shifts might give the Tacoma a slight edge over the Ranger. But most folks are buying new cars with manual transmissions these days. For enthusiasts like myself and maybe you, it’s just nice to see a brand that hasn’t decided to kill off the standard gear box.
