Are you surprised that the Ford Ranger has rapidly declining sales? It’s one of the oldest mid-size trucks available. It could feel even older than the geriatric Toyota Tacoma. So, it may be worth waiting for the 2024 Ford Ranger instead because it will provide much-needed updates. 

2024 Ford Ranger: What problems will be fixed?

The 2024 Ford Ranger is launching the fifth generation with a brand-new design. However, it will continue to ride on the mid-size T6 platform. This is the same platform that the Ford Bronco uses, and it may have received a few updates. 

The wheelbase and width have been stretched by two inches and could provide more passenger space and comfort. As Edmunds points out, the current Ranger has a tight backseat. There is only space for two shorter adults in the back, and child seats hardly fit. 

Also, the Ranger is short on storage space. There isn’t much space to work with under the rear seat, and the center console is limited. Reportedly, the 2024 Ranger provides more innovative storage solutions. 

The 2023 Ranger has a bumpy, unrefined ride quality. But the new Ranger should have a smoother ride over pavement thanks to the longer wheelbase. The rear shocks have been moved outboard of the frame rail to improve overall comfort. 

What engines could the 2024 Ranger have? 

The official specs for the 2024 Ford Ranger haven’t been released, but it’s expected to debut in May, so we don’t have to wait much longer to see what’s under the hood. 

The current 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with 270 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque is a solid option, and it’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. But it’s a little clumsy and could be updated. Perhaps the engine will be retuned to provide more power. 

We already know that we aren’t getting the new turbo-diesel engine that other countries have, and the manual transmission will probably be dropped. 

Also, the Ford Ranger Raptor is expected to bring the heat with 392 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. The Ford Ranger Hybrid might come out a few months later, and the Ford Ranger EV isn’t expected until we creep closer to 2024. 

The 2023 Ranger can tow up to 7,500 lbs and carry a payload of up to 1,860 lbs. It might get a boost to match the Jeep Gladiator’s 7,700-lb towing capacity. 

Plus, the current Ranger is disappointing when it comes to off-roading. The Tremor package just isn’t doing it for people. But the Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Raptor could gain beefy off-roading upgrades from the Ford Bronco Sasquatch and Raptor. 

Will the 2024 Ranger have a better interior? 

Yes, the 2024 Ford Ranger should have a modern interior with upscale improvements to bring it out of the stone age. Higher-quality materials will replace cheap plastics and textured patterns with bright accent stitching to create an attractive space. 

The outdated tech is being replaced by larger infotainment screens and an updated digital gauge cluster. It’s safe to expect a 360-degree camera system with trail views and an upgraded built-in navigation system. 

The Ranger should finally get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with an enhanced wireless charging pad.
