The Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro have had a healthy rivalry for decades now. The two sports cars have seemed to dominate the sector and capture the hearts of gearheads for generations. While it’s always stiff competition, the 2024 Ford Mustang seems to have one huge advantage over the 2023 Chevy Camaro. Here’s a look at how the two sports cars compare.

The 2024 Ford Mustang vs. the 2023 Chevy Camaro

The new 2024 Ford Mustang is a beauty of a sports car. The 2024 model features revised chassis hardware, an all-new interior, and two improved powertrains in its seventh generation. However, it still carries the classic look and legacy of the Ford Mustang. Seven trim levels are available on the 2024 Ford Mustang, with Ford offering its baseline EcoBoost Coupe trim at a starting price of $30,920.

Just as the Mustang carries a storied history, so does the Chevy Camaro. In its sixth generation, the 2023 Chevy Camaro remains largely unchanged except for the introduction of a 455-hp V8 from the C7 Corvette, which is available on the three upper-level trims. Just like the Mustang, Chevy offers seven trim level options for consumers to choose from on the 2023 Chevy Camaro, with the baseline 1LS trim starting at $26,100.

The biggest 2024 Ford Mustang advantage

The single biggest advantage the 2024 Ford Mustang has over the 2023 Chevy Camaro seems to be space. According to Edmunds, both the baseline Mustang and Camaro trims are two-door coupes that seat a total of four passengers. However, the Mustang gives these passengers considerable room to enjoy during their ride.

Edmunds reports that in terms of front leg room, the Mustang provinces 44.5 inches to Camaro’s 43.9 inches. In terms of the front shoulder room, passengers get 56.3 inches in the Mustang and only 55 inches in the Camaro. This trend carries over when comparing rear head and shoulder room too. The Mustang provides 34.8 inches of rear headroom and 52.2 inches of rear shoulder room, while the Camaro only provides 33.5 inches of rear headroom and 50.3 inches of rear shoulder room.

However, the Chevy Camaro provides passengers with slightly better front headroom and rear leg room than the Ford Mustang. The Mustang only provides 37.6 inches of front headroom compared to the 38.5 inches that the Camaro offers. In addition, the Mustang only gives backseat passengers 29 inches of rear legroom compared to the 29.9 inches that the Camaro provides. Despite these small advantages, the Ford Mustang is simply more spacious overall and provides a total of 13.3 cu. ft. of cargo space compared to the 9.1 cu. ft. that the Camaro offers.

Additional advantages and disadvantages of the Mustang

The 2024 Ford Mustang’s advantages over the 2023 Chevy Camaro include its standard horsepower and more estimated fuel economy rating. For example, the Ford Mustang’s horsepower ranges from top to bottom trims from 315 hp to 500 hp. In comparison, the horsepower on the Chevy Camaro trim levels ranges from 275 hp to 455 hp.

According to Car and Driver, the base model Mustang also offers a better overall fuel economy with an estimated 25 mpg combined rating compared to the Camaro’s 17 mpg combined average fuel economy. However, the Chevy Camaro has some advantages, like its base trim being $4,000 less than the Ford Mustang’s base trim.
