Summer is around the corner, and car shoppers will be looking for a drop-top car to uncage their drives. When it comes to the American market, two domestic models enter the convertible conversation first: the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro. So, does the 2023 Ford Mustang Convertible out-shine the 2023 Chevy Camaro?

Which 2023 Ford Mustang trims offer a convertible top?

Fortunately for fans of the Blue Oval’s long-running pony car, the 2023 Ford Mustang has convertible options in most trims other than the razor-sharp Mach 1. The option is around $5,500 more than the corresponding coupe in the lineup.

The base model EcoBoost Convertible starts at around $33,270, and the plusher EcoBoost Premium with a drop-top demands $38,295. At the top of the convertible options, the 2023 Ford Mustang GT Premium Convertible starts at around $48,865.

Like the 2023 Ford Mustang Convertible, the Chevy Camaro offers multiple convertible options. However, the Camaro has seven convertible trims, far more than the Ford pony car. Drop-top trims start at the turbo-four-cylinder 1LT and culminate with the tire-vaporizing ZL1.

While the 1LT’s turbocharged 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine might be a bit anemic compared to the Mustang’s EcoBoost mill, the V6 and V8 options out-muscle their Ford equivalents. For instance, the Camaro 1SS’ 6.2L V8 produces 455 horsepower, five more than the Mustang GT’s Coyote 5.0 V8, per TrueCar.

What is the cheapest 2023 Camaro convertible?

The cheapest 2023 Chevy Camaro Convertible in the lineup is the 1LT, which starts at $34,295 with the six-speed manual transmission. As a result, the entry-level Mustang EcoBoost Convertible is cheaper than the most accessible Camaro rag top.

However, the 455-horsepower 1SS Convertible starts at $47,295, which makes it cheaper and more potent than the 450-horsepower, soft-top Mustang GT Premium.

Will there be a 2024 Chevy Camaro?

While there will be a 2024 Chevy Camaro, it will be the model’s final year before General Motors (GM) discontinues it. Barring a hybridized or electrified reboot, the 2024 model will be the last opportunity for fans to get a Camaro in a coupe or convertible.

Will there be a 2024 Mustang convertible?

While 2023 is the final year for the S550 platform, Ford is bringing the Mustang Convertible and Fastback Coupe into another generation for the 2024 model year.

However, the 2024 Ford Mustang has a considerable price increase for the seventh-generation (S650) lineup. For instance, the new GT Premium Convertible starts at around $53,110, which pushes the point past the $50,000 threshold for the first time. Moreover, Ford won’t produce a base-model GT drop top, meaning fans who want a V8-powered Mustang Convertible will have to spend over $50,000.

Which drop-top pony car is better?

While many critics prefer the looks of the post-facelift S550 Ford Mustang to the Chevy Camaro, the Bow Tie’s brawler is a tough act to top. At the 1SS trim, the 6.2L V8-powered Camaro Convertible is faster, more powerful, and cheaper than the Mustang GT Convertible. Moreover, if bragging rights are in the mix, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a drop-top car in the segment with more swivel-eyed lunacy than the supercharged ZL1.
