Recently the Nissan Frontier got a significant overhaul to become a fresh competitor against popular rivals like the Ford Ranger or Toyota Tacoma. However, the 2023 Nissan Frontier is still missing the mark and falls short of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma vs. 2023 Nissan Frontier

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma outranks the 2023 Nissan Frontier even though the Tacoma is arguably outdated in comparison. The Tacoma has been almost the same since 2016! There were a few updates in 2020 to improve its comfort, but it could use a little spice.

However, the Nissan Frontier was redesigned in 2022. It has a more powerful engine, fresh exterior design, modern interior, and advanced tech. So, why is the new Frontier still falling behind the same old Tacoma?

According to Consumer Reports, the Toyota Tacoma barely beats the Nissan Frontier, so it did a good job catching up. However, the Frontier seems to be falling behind in the categories of reliability and predicted owner satisfaction.

Is the Tacoma more reliable than the Frontier?

The 2023 Toyota Tacoma and 2023 Nissan Frontier actually have similar reliability rankings. They both earned a score of 83 out of 100 from J.D.Power. Scores between 91 to 100 are the best, and ranking between 81 to 90 is great.

However, Consumer Reports shared that the 2023 Tacoma is expected to be slightly more reliable than the average new car, but the Nissan Frontier could be a little less reliable. So that moves the needle forward for the Tacoma.

Plus, the Tacoma has a reputation for being reliable. The average model should easily surpass 200,000 miles. Some even keep going after accruing over 300,000 to 400,000 miles. The Tacoma hasn’t changed its award-winning durability formula in a while, either.

The average Nissan Frontier is expected to make it to about 100,000 miles but can easily reach 200,000 miles with the proper care and maintenance. So, Tacoma could potentially provide more years on the road.

However, the Frontier has an updated suspension and a better engine that could improve its predicted reliability score.

Also, how a vehicle is handled can impact its lifespan. The Tacoma is designed to take a beating, and owners may be rougher on the pavement. Used Frontier models may be in better condition. Do your research before buying!

Is the Tacoma more comfortable than the Frontier?

The 2023 Nissan Frontier has a few advantages over the 2023 Toyota Tacoma regarding comfort. But for some reason, it has a lower predicted satisfaction rating, meaning people might not be as happy with what they get.

While the Frontier ranks higher for having a better ride quality, more comfortable seats, more passenger space, and less interior noise, something must be missing. The Frontier also ranks higher for its driving experience.

It has a faster acceleration with smoother transmission shifts and more confident brakes. It could be the more comfortable and engaging daily driver. But it won’t catch the Tacoma while off-roading.

The 2023 Nissan Frontier almost caught the aging Toyota Tacoma, but didn’t manage to snag the victory. While it’s more comfortable and spacious with enticing upgrades, it isn’t has reliable as the Tacoma.
