As a mid-size truck, the GMC Canyon has always aimed to bring more luxury to the pickup truck game. With its high-end Denali trim, consumers get features that are typically reserved for larger vehicles, and now the 2023 Canyon AT4X Edition 1 is going to take that to the next level. For an eye-watering price of over $60k, this mid-size pickup offers off-road capability with a high-end attitude.

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X Edition 1 is not cheap

If you’re wondering what the most expensive mid-size truck is, the 2023 GMC Canyon likely takes the cake. While the Canyon AT4X Edition 1 is a legit off-road truck, it is anything but cheap. And it will be interesting to see if the cost is not too high that it scares potential buyers away.

In terms of price, the 2023 Canyon AT4X Edition 1 is almost comparable to the Ford Bronco Raptor. For a mid-size truck that should be competing with the Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and the upcoming Ford Ranger Raptor, that might not be a good thing.

The Edition 1 package will be limited to a certain amount of trucks. If you are interested in it, it would probably be best to contact your local GMC dealership.

What does the Canyon AT4X come with?

The 2023 GMC Canyon AT4X will come with a 2.7-liter turbocharged engine that makes 310 horsepower and 430 pound-foot of torque. It will also be wider than the standard Canyon and boast features like skid plates and even a factory-installed winch.

If you plan to really off-road this mid-size truck, you are likely to appreciate the 10.7 inches of ground clearance that the Canyon AT4X can feature. The approach angle is set at 36.9 degrees, and the breakover angle is 24.5 degrees. For departure angle, GM states 25 degrees, and those are pretty solid numbers.

Will there be a new GMC Canyon for 2023?

According to Car and Driver, both the GMC Canyon and Chevy Colorado will be new for 2023. General Motors has not updated its mid-size truck for some time. So as competitors like Nissan and Toyota bring new generations, it is probably a good thing that the Canyon is entering its next generation.

There will be a price hike across the board, and the optional V6 engine is now dead. That’s right, if you want a 2023 Canyon, you can only get it with a four-cylinder powerplant. The change in engine lineup might lead to questions about long-term reliability.

Is the 2023 GMC Canyon good off-road?

In terms of off-road performance, the Canyon takes things to the next level with the AT4X trim. While the cheaper route might be the Colorado ZR2, the GMC variant offers more luxury.

At the end of the day, cheaper off-road trucks do exist. But if you have the budget, maybe the 2023 Canyon could be the correct pick. At over $60,000, it is hard to picture someone actually taking the AT4X into serious off-road situations.
