On the performance front, the 2023 Ford Explorer outmuscles the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a higher base engine horsepower and maximum horsepower output. Engine options for the Explorer include a 2.3-liter EcoBoost I-4 (300 horsepower), a 3.3-liter V-6 hybrid (318 horsepower), and a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V-6 (400 horsepower).

In comparison, engine options for the Grand Cherokee include a 3.6-liter V-6 (293 horsepower), a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 (357 horsepower), and a plug-in hybrid with the 4xe model (375 horsepower). 

For efficiency, the fully gas-powered Explorer has an estimated gas mileage of up to 24 combined mpg, while the Explorer Hybrid has a fuel economy of up to 27 combined mpg. In comparison, the gas-powered Grand Cherokee has an estimated gas mileage of up to 22 combined mpg, while the Grand Cherokee 4xe plug-in hybrid has a fuel economy of up to 56 combined MPGe in electric mode and 23 combined mpg in hybrid mode.

As of this writing, the cost information is not yet available for the Grand Cherokee 4xe model.
