When it comes to super trucks, the Chevrolet Silverado is dancing to the beat of its own drum. It’s not trying to become a high-speed desert racer like the Ram 1500 TRX or Ford F-150 Raptor R. Instead, the 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison is more of a rock crawler.

What comes with the 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison?

The 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison has a 6.2-liter V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Ford F-150 Raptor R has a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that cranks out 700 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque.

So, the Raptor R may win in a race on the tack. However, the ZR2 Bison was built in collaboration with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV) to create the most capable off-roading Silverado ever.

It builds upon the Silverado ZR2 with five hot-stamped boron steel skid plates. The steel-stamped front and rear bumpers are derived from 3-millimeter steel that’s been powered and E-coated. They have tow hooks and integrated steps.

Plus, steel rocker panels provide extra protection. The gloss black 18-inch wheels are wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. Larger options could be on the way.

How capable is the Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison?

The Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison has a ground clearance of 11.2 inches, like the regular ZR2 model. The bumpers can be easily removed to improve wheel travel, and they are wench compatible.

Plus, the steel bumpers enhance its performance. The ZR2 Bison has a 32.5 approach angle and 23.4-degree departure angle. This is up from a 31.8-degree approach angle and 23.3 departure angle with the ZR2.

This beast has a lifted suspension with wider control arms and 40-mm Multimatic DSSV dampers. It flaunts 9.84 inches of wheel travel in the front with 10.62 inches in the rear. Also, front and rear locking differentials come standard.

Also, the ZR2 Bison comes with the Multi-Flex tailgate. The top half or mid-gate can be used as a work surface, the center gate can be folded down to provide closer access to the bed, and it folds down into a step. The gate can also be used to extend the length of the bed.

How much does the Silverado ZR2 Bison cost?

The 2023 Chevy Silverado ZR2 Bison price starts at $78,490. This hovers right around the price of the Ram 1500 TRX. Also, the regular ZR2 model starts at $69,800. The ZR2 Bison may reach dealerships by the spring.

It features a body-colored bar across the grille to help it stand out. Matte black surrounds the tailgate, and it features unique Bison badging.

The interior has contrasting gray and black upholstery with yellow accent stitching. Plus, it has embroidered logos. The AEV badged slush mats should be easy to clean.

Plus, the Silverado ZR2 Bison features the optional 13.4-inch touchscreen and the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.

We can’t wait to see how the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison tackles the wild. It has an interesting approach to the competition by serving as an off-roader instead of a high-speed racer.
