The 2022 NY International Auto Show is in full swing this week. Ford is showing off some of its most popular truck models, including the F-150, the Ranger, and the Maverick. Seeing the Maverick and Ranger together makes the Maverick look even tinier.

The Ford Maverick’s size could be understated

Calling the Ford Maverick tiny could be an understatement. It’s tough to visualize the Maverick’s true size without knowing how much larger the midsize Ford Ranger is.

The Ford Ranger is 211 inches long, 78 inches wide, and 71 inches tall. The Maverick is only 200 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 69 inches tall. The midsize Ford Ranger is nearly an entire foot longer than the Maverick. It’s practically half a foot wider than the Maverick as well.

Seeing the Ford Maverick in person brings its practicality into question. Its truck bed is 54 inches long. The Ranger’s truck bed is 60-72 inches long, depending on the model. The average adult bike is 69 inches long, so the Maverick’s Flexbed is a tight squeeze.

The Maverick’s truck bed may be fully customizable, but the question is, how do you get anything to fit in that tiny bed? The Maverick may be more than meets the eye, but it’s hard to tell even when you’re up close and personal with the small pickup truck.

The Maverick Flexbed is supposed to make up for its small size

The Ford Maverick’s Flexbed is easily its most unique feature. The truck is barebones, especially the base model. Since the truck bed is so tiny, the Blue Oval made it fully customizable to be more practical.

The Maverick Flexbed features threaded DIY bed holes and slots to make it easier for Maverick owners to adjust the bed to suit their needs. Ford claims that the Maverick can haul lumber, bikes, and even couches in its bed. The small pickup truck may not be suited for the average truck driver, but the Maverick wasn’t intended for the same audience as the Ranger. It is one of the smallest trucks that money can buy, for better or worse.

Is the Ford Maverick the right truck for you?

The 2022 Ford Maverick isn’t for everyone. That being said, the small pickup truck has become wildly popular in cities like LA and San Francisco. The Maverick appeals to a new demographic of truck owners and drivers.

The tiny pickup is incredibly affordable, starting at just $19,995. According to Car and Driver, the standard hybrid truck gets an incredible 42 miles per gallon in the city and 33 miles per gallon on the highway. It might not be able to store much cargo in its bed, but this thing can squeeze into a tight city parking spot and sips gas like a sedan. The Maverick is the truck for drivers that never would have considered buying a pickup before.
