The Toyota Land Cruiser became an icon because of its bold spirit and ruggedness. Several SUVs have tried to fill the void left by its departure. The Lexus LX 600 is one such SUV poised to take over the Land Cruiser‘s role, using the same build combined with added style and features. However, does the LX tick all the necessary boxes for a luxury SUV?

Lexus introduced its version of the Land Cruiser in 1995 with the Lexus LX 450. Lexus will put its new LX 600 to the test in 2022. The new LX 600 marks the first update for the LX since 2008, Forbes reports.

Lexus LX models in the past were essentially Toyota Land Cruisers in a luxury package. In fact, the original LX 450 was little more than an 80-series Land Cruiser with better leather sold by a more high-end dealership network. So, when Lexus announced that the all-new 2022 Lexus LX was being developed with off-road capability in mind, courtesy of Car and Driver, there was much interest. Could this be the Lexus LX SUV that finally offers true luxury and off-road capability?

A new and more capable Lexus LX

The new Lexus LX is indeed a more capable off-roader than its predecessor, and it’s also a more luxurious SUV. With its all-new platform, the 2022 LX offers more power, efficiency, and off-road capability while maintaining the same level of luxury.

The exterior of the LX 600 is imposing and muscular. The front end features a large grille flanked by LED headlights. The sides are characterized by prominent wheel arches and 21-inch alloy wheels. Meanwhile, the rear end features LED taillights and a sporty diffuser.

The LX is powered by a 3.6-liter turbocharged V6 engine, producing 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. That power is sent to all four wheels through a newly developed active traction control system that features different modes for various terrains. Off-road, the LX is equipped with a full-time four-wheel-drive system with a low range and a locking center differential. The SUV also has an adjustable air suspension that can raise the ride height by four inches.

According to Edmunds, the Lexus LX now comes with Toyota’s Crawl Control, too, making it easy for the SUV to climb steep hills and descend them; the driver only needs to steer.

Lexus LX maintains its luxury SUV status

The interior of the Lexus LX 600 is luxurious and spacious. It can comfortably seat up to eight passengers. The second row features captain’s chairs that are separated by a center console. Meanwhile, the Lexus SUV’s third-row offers enough room for adults. There is flat-folding third-row seating available in the cargo area too. It is electronically operated and offers up 44 cubic feet of cargo space, a significant increase over the previous generation.

The 2022 Lexus LX 600 is more than just a luxury SUV. It’s a true powerhouse capable of taking on any terrain or road condition. With its imposing exterior, luxurious interior, and impressive performance, the LX 600 is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. If you’re looking for an SUV that offers everything you could ever want or need, the LX 600 is definitely worth considering.
