We know, you’re probably used to the Kia Telluride winning awards and being the best. However, it was ranked below the Subaru Ascent until now. Let’s see how the 2022 Kia Telluride managed to reclaim its crown over the 2022 Subaru Ascent.

According to MotorTrend, the 2022 Kia Telluride is the non-luxury three-row SUV you can buy. It just took the 2022 Subaru Ascent down to reclaim the top spot. Reportedly, the change among these rankings is related to value.

In 2021, the Telluride has sky-high insurance costs that negatively impacted its value. But MotorTend considers more than just the purchasing price and insurance prices when it comes to value.

Also, while the insurance prices remain high, the Telluride has a better five-year resale value. It improved from poor to average. This is why it gained a higher overall score.

The Telluride has an estimated 47 percent resale value after five years of ownership. The Subaru Ascent has a 40 percent depreciation rate after five years of ownership, so the Telluride is predicted to maintain seven percent more of its value.

Does the Telluride or Ascent have a better performance?

You can get started with the 2022 Kia Telluride for about $33,390. It comes with a 3.8-liter V6 engine with 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.5 seconds.

The 2022 Subaru Ascent begins at $32,795. It has a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 260 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. It can reach 60 mph in roughly 6.7 seconds.

The Telluride features a smoother acceleration and ride quality over rough sections of pavement. It may have a quieter interior as well. The Ascent has a slightly stiffer third row.

Both SUVs can tow up to 5,000 lbs. The Telluride provides 21.0 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats with up to 87.0 cubes total. The Ascent has 17.8 cubic feet behind the rear seats with up to 86.5 cubes total.

The Ascent has an 8.7-inch ground clearance and standard AWD. The Telluride has an 8.0-inch ground clearance with available AWD. Both feature hill-descent control, and the Telluride has a locking AWD mode.

Does the Telluride or Ascent have better features?

The 2022 Subaru Ascent has a 6.5-inch touchscreen that can be upgraded to an 8.0-inch unit, while the 2022 Kia Telluride has a 10.3-inch infotainment system. Both have standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Both SUVs offer a head-up display, wireless phone charging pad, premium audio system, and ventilated seats. But the Telluride may have more standard amenities, such as faux leather seats.

More safety features are accessible on every Telluride trim. However, both SUVs have standard adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.

It’s a little odd that the Subaru Ascent was ranked ahead of the Kia Telluride unless it has more attractive off-roading tech. But the Telluride has more value, more tech, more space, and more comfort.
