Hyundai Motor Group held nothing back when creating its Genesis luxury brand. Its flagship four-door—the 2022 Genesis G90—has remarkable style, comfort, and amenities, better compared to Bentley’s Continental than the Mercedes S-Class. Yet, with all baronial business-class sedans lies the concern of reliability.

Luxurious, top-of-the-line offerings are often packed with newer technologies and are overall more complicated, thus more prone to malfunction. However, Genesis has a splendid handle on this, serving up reliability on a meticulously polished silver platter.

2022 Genesis G90 customer service and reliability

Since the marquee brand’s standalone debut with the 2017 Genesis G90, each of its offerings has performed well in quality and reliability. In its five-year history, the G90 faced only three recalls, Consumer Reports shows. For the 2017 and 2018 models, the 3.3-liter twin-turbocharged V6 leaked oil onto the exhaust manifold. The 2018 model’s windshield and rear window also had subpar glass bonding. Regardless, these were relatively minor problems that Genesis has since fixed.

For the 2022 model, the Genesis G90 stands ahead of its competitors from BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes, in reliability. J.D. Power analyzed potential defects, malfunctions, and design flaws from Genesis owners, from the radiator to the seat bolstering. They awarded the G90 a score of 91 out of 100, the highest in the large luxury car segment.

Additionally, the G90’s standard warranty speaks volumes about how confident Genesis is about dependability. In fact, the company has a “Genesis Complete Confidence” program to quell the nerves of deep-pocketed buyers. Their soothing guarantee includes:

  • 3-year, 36,000-mile free maintenance plan
  •  5-year, 60,000-mile basic warranty
  • 7-year anti-corrosion warranty
  • 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty

Genesis also provides monthly vehicle reports for keen owners concerned about the health of their G90 or any other Genesis product. Moreover, the company offers all-inclusive customer and vehicle care through its innovative Genesis Service Valet. By appointment, Genesis will pick up customer cars for service, deliver a replacement Genesis vehicle, and return the car once service is complete.

2022 Genesis G90 engine choices

Genesis offers two engines for the 2022 Genesis G90, depending upon one of the two trim levels selected. The Premium trim comes with a 365-horsepower twin-turbocharged V6, and the Ultimate trim features a 420-horsepower naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8. Each powerplant is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Both models are rear-wheel drive as standard but can be upgraded to all-wheel drive for an additional $2,500, TrueCar reports.

One of the few downsides to the 2022 Genesis G90 is its lackluster fuel economy compared with others in the segment. The EPA estimates 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway for the V8-powered model. With the boosted V6, those estimates bump up to 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg highway.

2022 Genesis G90 interior features

The G90’s posture is much more wafting wealth than a backroad barnstormer. Although it has plenty of power to overtake the less affluent on toll roads, it does so in near silence. Genesis set the bar high with its noise-cancellation technology to reduce noise from unwanted engine frequencies, but also other disturbances. Genesis parent company Hyundai Motor Group calls the system “Road Noise Active Noise Control.” It will address anything from tire hissing to the thumps of rumble strips, not eliminating them, but making them more tolerable.

As the Genesis figurehead sedan, the 2022 G90’s interior is richly-adorned with elegant materials mirroring sedans twice the price. The design is phenomenally sophisticated, with standard Nappa leather seats, wood and stainless steel trim, and a suede headliner. All G90 models feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Those who don’t want to poke at the screen can access nearly all functions via a large, haptically satisfying, center console-mounted rotary knob. From there, drivers can also control the optional rear-seat entertainment system with two 10.3-inch displays.

Is the Genesis G90 the best large luxury sedan to buy?

Large luxury sedans usually aren’t renowned for their value. However, Genesis likes to play by its own rules. Whereas a similarly-equipped Mercedes S-Class would have a price tag deep into six figures, a G90 can be had for much, much less.

Edmunds reports that the Premium trim level starts at around $76,000 and the Ultimate around $80,000. Given the extraordinary warranty, reliability, and customer service guarantees, spending the money for a 2022 G90 is more than worth it.
