Creating a new truck comes with great responsibilities. The 2022 Ford Maverick is no exception to this rule. Ford may not have been able to stuff everything in this compact truck. So, if you like the Ford Maverick, be wise with your decisions. 

The 2022 Ford Maverick doesn’t have it all

Just to be clear, we aren’t saying that the 2022 Ford Maverick is a bad truck. We are saying that it may come with a few difficult choices because it doesn’t include every great feature on any of the trim levels. 

For example, the Ford Maverick is a compact truck. From the exterior, drivers are attracted to the agile size. However, the interior could seem too small. But two adults can sit in the rear comfortably. 

The Maverick is proportioned in a way to make sense of its space. The horizontal dashboard and short center console create the impression of width. There’s no need for steps because the truck only sits 8.3-inches off the ground. 

The Maverick offers capability or efficiency 

According to Cars.com, picking the right engine with the 2022 Ford Maverick is a crucial choice. You can have efficiency or speed, not both. Also, on that note, it’s important to share that the hybrid powertrain can’t be paired with all-wheel drive. 

The hybrid powertrain comes standard. It’s a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s paired with an electronic continuously variable automatic transmission that only sends power to the front wheels. It pumps out 191 hp and 155 lb-ft of torque. 

This provides a sluggish acceleration that won’t beat the Hyundai Santa Cruz in a race. But it is efficient. It gets an EPA-estimated 40 mpg in the city. However, the Cars.com team averaged 50 mpg. The Maverick Hybrid can tow up to 2,000 lbs. 

With the turbocharged 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, you get 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, which is quite the increase. The same setup in the Ford Escape allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 6.9 seconds. 

But the EcoBoost Maverick only gets an EPA-estimated 23 mpg on the highway and up to 30 mph on the highway. This is average. Adding AWD reduces these figures to 22 and 29 mpg. Losing about one mile per gallon is a fair trade for AWD. 

The Maverick gets expensive

If you want to save some cash, you can get started in the 2022 Ford Maverick for $19,955. This is for the base model with the hybrid engine. Adding the EcoBoost engine increases the price to about $21,080. Also, these are the MSRPs listed, so these prices do not include dealership markups or delivery fees. 

The optional off-road package isn’t available with the base model. It costs about $800 to add. The 4K tow package increases the total by about $745. Also, adding all-wheel drive costs about $2,000. 

Automated emergency braking comes standard. But you need to add the Ford Co-Pilot360 package for more safety features. Optional features include a full-size spare tire, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, and more. 

With all the bells and whistles added to make a more capable truck, you can afford a larger, mid-size option. However, that may defeat the purpose of going for a compact option.
