The new 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto could enable the V12 engine to live on. Instead of a traditional, high-powered, naturally aspirated V12 setup, this new Lamborghini supercar delivers a hybrid powertrain, which created an extremely difficult design challenge for the brand. Let’s see what makes the new Revuelto special.

The new Revuelto isn’t just another Lamborghini

Everything about the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto is brand new. According to CNN Business, the greatest challenge the brand faced in making this new hybrid supercar was the engine’s orientation.

In most Lamborghinis, starting with the Countach, the engine power is sent to the front of the car. This is because the transmission is positioned between the two seats. The power is then rerouted to the rear wheels or all four wheels, depending on the layout. Things are different in the new Revuelto.

In order to maintain the V12 engine size and make room for the battery packs, Lamborghini changed the engine’s orientation. In the Revuelto, the engine points rearward, making room for the batteries and maintaining an excellent weight distribution in this new car. Once the batteries and electric motors are added, the Lamborghini Revuelto provides 44 front/56 rear weight distribution.

The rear area of this new Lamborghini supercar features the engine and one electric motor, which send power to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. Two additional electric motors are positioned at each of the front wheels, making this a new hybrid AWD supercar. The motors at the front wheels give this car the torque vectoring desired when carving up the corners of any track.

The Revuelto batteries are charged using a plug, making this a PHEV with an all-electric driving range. Lamborghini hasn’t offered this information yet, but it should be provided soon. This new hybrid supercar can operate on pure electricity or act like a traditional hybrid, using electric and gas power to rocket the car down the straights.

How much does the 2024 Lamborghini Revuelto cost?

Pricing for the Revuelto hasn’t been announced yet. That said, shoppers can expect this new supercar to cost significantly more than the models they replace. We’re not sure if the Revuelto is replacing a car or being added to the mix.

Suppose this new Lamborghini hybrid supercar is the replacement for the Aventador. That was the last Lamborghini powered by a V12 engine. In that case, it should start at more than $500,000. But it will likely be much more than that, considering the Aventador began at this price.

What does the Revuelto mean for the future of Lamborghini?

In addition to sharing a production line, these new supercars will share more parts. Sharing parts saves money but will not necessarily offset the increased cost of switching to plug-in hybrid production for this new supercar.

The space saved inside the factory could be used to build Lamborghini’s next new supercar from, which is expected to be a fully electric supercar. This new Lamborghini EV should be presented by 2028 and be a four-seat car instead of a traditional two-seat Lamborghini supercar.
