Toyota is up to something! The company recently released an image of a potential new car in the lineup called the Prologue. Toyota x Prologue is set to release next Wednesday, March 17, at some point. Is Toyota finally stepping into the electric vehicle game? We hope so.

Toyota X Prologue

According to Motor 1, there is something big coming! The Toyota X-Prologue website displays a countdown to something. The teaser image shows a running light and some futuristic headlights on a red vehicle. It appears to be an SUV front end.

Although Toyota is a leader in the industry, it has fallen behind in the electric vehicle craze. The companies new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) is supposed to be formatted into E-TNGA to support more electric vehicles.

There are also indications that the Prologue will not be available in America. The Japanese automaker currently has EV factories in Europe and Japan which would mean the vehicles could be made and sold there.

It is not clear yet if the Prologue would come to America, but perhaps the Japanese company will open an electric vehicle factory in America to keep up with demand. It is one of the last companies to not announce a formal plan to create and keep up with EV demand for the future.

Subaru x Toyota

It appears Toyota has a whole new lineup planned around this new platform. This might consist of crossover SUVs, sedans, minivans, and whatever else the company might need. The platform can support front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive, and all-wheel-drive, which leaves a lot of room for options.

According to Inside EVs, this might not be a single car. Toyota could go ahead and release a whole lineup of electric vehicles with all the hype surrounding this announcement. If it is a single-car, this is likely the SUV prototype that has been rumored for a while.

Subaru and Toyota have been working together on the design. Subaru called the SUV the Subaru Evoltis. We still only have an unofficial render of what the SUV would look like, but it does look similar to the sneak peek we see here.

The Evoltis name was trademarked back in 2018 but is supposedly coming out in 2021 as well. Could the Prologue live up to its name and be the start of something new for Toyota and Subaru?

2021 is about taking risks

Toyota has healthy sales numbers across the board, but the company has not participated in the electric vehicle game much. The Prius was released back in 1997 and is still in production.

While Tesla might be doing OK selling the various cars in the line, these are also pretty high price points. Toyota is just taking time to come out with something that might be more affordable. Either way, it is a bit behind in releasing something. Anything.

Perhaps after all this time, the global automaker is ready to jump head-first into the EV game. If the company makes it, people will buy it. Hopefully.
