The 2023 Toyota RAV4 is the most popular SUV in its class. In addition, it’s a fantastic all-around option, but there are others that rival it in a few main ways. Perhaps one of the most underrated RAV4 Toyota rivals is the 2023 Chevrolet Equinox. It offers similar performance, and the Chevy SUV includes ample space for passengers and cargo.

There’s no denying that the 2023 Toyota RAV4 beats the Chevrolet Equinox 2023 in performance. However, the two SUVs are fairly similar in this category. According to Car and Driver, the 2023 Chevy Equinox has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It has a maximum output of 175 horsepower and can be either all or front-wheel drive, which is a slight improvement over the Equinox 2022.

The 2023 Toyota RAV4, on the other hand, has a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a maximum output of 203 hp. It uses an eight-speed transmission, while the 2023 Chevy Equinox uses a six-speed. Regarding speed, the RAV4 accelerates from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 8.3 seconds, but it takes the Chevy SUV a little longer at 8.9 seconds. Still, this isn’t a drastic difference despite the Toyota being a little faster.

The 2023 Chevy Equinox is also a competitor to the RAV4 because of its interior. It has a comfortable cabin that not only looks good, but that’s made from durable materials. The RAV4 happens to seat the same amount of people as the Equinox, but it still has more room for passengers to spread out. Regarding cargo space, the Chevy SUV is pretty standard and can fit eight standard-size suitcases behind the rear seats.

The technology in the 2023 Equinox is both user-friendly and decently high-tech. It has a standard seven-inch touchscreen with the option to make it an eight-inch display. The vehicle also has both USB ports and an auxiliary connection, the latter of which isn’t often found today. The cabin is similar to the Equinox 2022. Overall, the Chevy Equinox interior may be a tad less upscale than the 2023 RAV4, but not by a large margin.

The 2023 Chevy Equinox is predicted to be reliable

Reliability is another thing the latest Equinox has going for itself. It has a predicted reliability score of 83 out of 100, which is fairly high compared to other vehicles. In fact, the 2023 RAV4 has an 81 rating from J.D. Power. Though not a huge difference, it shows that the Equinox is a well-trusted SUV, even if it’s not the most popular.

The Chevrolet SUV also comes at a lower price than the 2023 RAV4. It starts at $26,300, and the top trim costs $31,500, which is on par with the Equinox 2022 when it was new. The Toyota RAV4 starts at $27,975 and goes up to almost $40,000. Both are great vehicles, but the Chevy Equinox has much of what the RAV4 offers.
