The Toyota Tundra has long been the brand’s full-size truck. And with a new generation getting introduced in 2022, this pickup truck also got a serious luxury trim. Known as the Toyota Tundra Capstone, this truck offers what you would expect from a luxury vehicle. Unfortunately, it also comes with a luxury price tag. So, what’s the deal with the top-trim Tundra?

What is the Toyota Tundra Capstone?

The Tundra Capstone truck is the top-of-the-line version of Toyota’s full-size pickup. It comes standard with the twin-turbo V6 iForce MAX hybrid engine that makes 437 horsepower. This Toyota truck also features loads of chrome and 22-inch wheels. And when I got to test the 2022 Tundra Capstone last November, I was thoroughly impressed by the level of detail Toyota put into it. 

But, with an MSRP starting over $75k, it’s hard to say who the Capstone trim is for. It’s more expensive than the top models of the Ford F-150 and Ram 1500, so it’s not cheap. And the Tundra does not have the same level of following that those pickup trucks have. 

It’s also worth noting that the Capstone trim cannot tow or haul as much as other Tundra models. Plus, you’re limited to the hybrid engine. 

The Tundra Capstone is a next-level truck

If you haven’t had a chance to see what expensive trucks have to offer these days, you are likely to be surprised by the Tundra Capstone. According to Car and Driver, it gets adaptive dampers and rear air springs that can raise or lower the bed. And, when you step inside, you might feel a bit nervous about actually doing truck stuff. 

Sure, I found the leather-adorned interior to be extremely comfortable. But I also felt the need to ensure my shoes were free of any dirt or mud before I got behind the wheel. It just felt like this full-size truck deserved to be treated with care. 

Driving the 2022 Toyota Tundra Capstone was also a bit of a surprise. The Capstone trim has acoustic glass on the front doors and driving around town or on the highway, you feel isolated. Paired with the commanding road presence of this vehicle, driving the new Tundra does inspire confidence. 

Is the most expensive version of the Tundra worth it?

At over $75k, it’s hard to say if the Toyota Tundra Capstone makes a case. It does come with nearly every feature that this truck has to offer, but it’s not necessarily the best at doing truck stuff. 

That said, there’s no denying that this is a luxury vehicle. In another universe, if you put a Lexus badge on the Toyota Tundra Capstone, I think it could pass. So, it’s not right for everyone, but it is impressive. 

I’m not sure how many folks are going to go out there and get this pickup truck. The lower trims can certainly come well-equipped, and there is always the TRD Pro model for folks who enjoy off-roading. 

But for folks who demand the most luxury and features, this truck is there.
