Ford is one of the great American automakers, and throughout the company’s lengthy history, Ford has made many cars, including some very powerful and fast ones. The Mustang is perhaps the most famous Ford car ever, and since it’s a muscle car that came with some huge engines, many may assume that a Mustang was Ford’s fastest car ever. That’s not the case though, and here’s a look at the fastest car that Ford ever made.

There are two ways to measure speed but the fastest Ford tops both metrics

When it comes to a car’s speed, there are actually many ways to measure it. Each way of measuring speed can be advantageous to some cars, while those metrics may be disadvantageous to others. For example, one way to measure speed is to just drive a car around a track that has corners. Many cars aren’t good at cornering, and that makes many sports cars perform worse on the track.

Speed can also be measured in how fast it takes a car to go a mile, but this isn’t a common way to measure speed. When it comes to speed, folks are usually talking about one of two metrics. The first is simply the car’s top speed, while the other way is the car’s acceleration time.

The car’s top speed is usually without speed limiters, and the car’s acceleration time is measured as how fast it goes from 0 to 60 mph.  In both areas, the fastest Ford car is the GT, according to Lemon Bin.

Here’s how the Ford GT is the fastest Ford ever made

The American automaker first introduced the GT back in the 2005 model year, but it had a limited run that lasted one year. A decade later though, Ford decided to revive the GT and it’s been building the sports car ever since. That said, the 2023 model year will be the GT’s last model year for now, but the modern GT has had a spectacular run.

The $500,000 sports car comes with a single-engine option, and it’s a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. It gets 660 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque, and while that doesn’t sound too impressive for a sports car, the GT’s specs are very impressive. The GT is a two-seater, and it has a sleek, aerodynamic, and lightweight design. That helps it accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3 seconds, and that makes the GT much faster than the next best Ford.

For context, the next best ford is the Mustang Mach-E GT, which clocked in a 0 to 60 mph time of 3.5 seconds. On top of having a faster acceleration, the GT has a top speed of 216 mph. No other Fords have a comparable top speed. Like most other EVs, the Mach-E GT has a relatively slow top speed of about 124 mph. The Mustang Shelby GT500, meanwhile, only tops out at about 180 mph.

The Ford GT is so fast that it’s in the same class as high-end supercars

With those numbers, the GT is easily in a different league compared to other Ford models. It’s the fastest Ford by far, and it’s more comparable to luxury supercars that were also designed with speed in mind. It’s a step below hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron that can push close to 300 mph, but it’s in the same league as European supercars.

For example, the McLaren 720S costs over $300,000, and tops out at over 200 mph. The GT’s specs are even comparable to the fastest Ferrari cars ever made. Some Ferrari models have a better acceleration time, but in terms of top speed, the fastest Ford is neck-and-neck with the fastest Ferrari.
