Acura is known for its luxury cars and performance variants, such as the Type S. However, the brand also makes low-volume PMC Edition models. What does the abbreviation “PMC” stand for? Here’s the answer and more about Acura PMC Edition cars.

What does the Acura PMC abbreviation mean?

“PMC” is an abbreviation for “Performance Manufacturing Center.” This 200,000-square-foot facility is located in Marysville, Ohio. Here, engineers at any stage can see every other step of PMC Edition vehicle production. Acura claims the open floor plan helps technicians feel more connected to the manufacturing process.

The PMC “was designed to innovate both the means and methods of producing low-volume specialty vehicles by marrying the precision of advanced technology with the artistry of human craftsmanship,” Acura said in a press release.

What exactly happens at the PMC, and how is it different from Acura’s other assembly plants?

Several factors distinguish vehicles manufactured here from the rest. Workers use numerous patented and patent-pending technologies, including a 45-minute process for exacting wheel alignment, a four-wheel braking performance measure, and a four-corner weight and ride height check.

Also, unlike mass-production facilities, the PMD doesn’t use conveyor belts to deliver parts. Instead, the entire process is done by hand to ensure the highest quality.

“We designed the PMC not only to build NSX but to give Acura the flexibility to explore handcrafted production of limited-edition models,” Acura Brand Officer Jon Ikeda added.

What was the 1st Acura PMC Edition model?

The first of its kind, the 2020 Acura TLX PMC Edition debuted at the New York Auto Show in April 2020. The car was available that summer, with pricing starting at around $50,000.

This limited-edition TLX featured a direct-injected i-VTEC engine and Acura’s trademarked Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive. The low-production model was “distinguished by its deeply lustrous and grade-exclusive Valencia Red Pearl paint with nano-pigment technology, applied in the bespoke factory’s advance paint facility,” Acura says.

In addition, the 2020 TLX PMC Edition incorporated “the bold exterior and interior design elements of Acura’s A-Spec line, plus multiple PMC Edition-exclusive design elements, inside and out.”

What is the newest Acura PMC Edition model?

PMC Edition models are coveted among enthusiasts. The 2023 Acura TLX Type S PMC Edition is the latest to get the special treatment. It’s the fifth model produced at the PMC in Ohio.

Unique exterior details include premium nano-pigment paints in three exclusive colors previously offered only on the now-discontinued NSX. The new TLX Type S PMC Edition also gains 20-inch copper-painted wheels, a black-painted roof, illuminated Type S side sills, and a carbon fiber diffuser and decklid spoiler.

Priced from $62,000, the car comes with free maintenance for the first two services.
