Cleveland-Akron (Canton), Ohio, is the least expensive place to find cheap used cars, with an average cost of only $31,458. That is more than eight percent below the national average of $34,227. That saved shoppers $2,769 on average by purchasing a vehicle in Cleveland, Ohio.

There is a noticeable trend for those who want cheap used cars and go to Ohio to find it. Three trucks can be located in Ohio for less expensive than anywhere else. These are the Ram 1500, the Ford F-150, and the GMC Sierra 1500. Purchasing the Ram 1500 in Cleveland-Akron can save shoppers $7,795, or more than 16%. Those interested in the used Ford F-150 might want to look in Columbus, where the average used truck is $38,955. That is more than 15% cheaper or $6,956 less than the average price.

Oddly enough, even though Florida has some of the most expensive places to find a used vehicle, it is the cheapest place to find a few models. Finding a Chevrolet Malibu in Miami or Fort Lauderdale might cost you $18,417. Compare that to buying one in Dallas-Ft. Worth, where that same Civic might cost you $22,339.

The Toyota Tacoma, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Toyota RAV4 are less expensive in some Florida cities. The average cost of a Tacoma in Miami-Ft. Lauderdale is $32,373, compared to $39,167 in Albuquerque-Santa Fe, New Mexico. With that $6,794 savings, you could go on vacation to Florida, sit on the beach with a Publix sub, pick up your Tacoma, and drive your new cheap used car home for far less than buying in Albuquerque.

Where is the cheapest place to get a used truck?

Ohio is your best bet for a used truck, but you might want to avoid a few places. Denver, Colorado, Greensboro-Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Salt Lake City, Utah, were the most expensive places to purchase popular used trucks. Buying a used GMC Sierra in Cleveland over Winston-Salem could save you $7,116 on average.

It might be harder to find cheap used cars these days, but shopping around might save you a lot of cash. Researching vehicle costs before signing any paperwork can also help save you in the long run. And as for the most popular models? Those might have to get left behind. While many automakers have been able to ramp up production on new cars over the last few months, popular models are usually more expensive. Low supply and high demand usually mean dealership markups or extra fees.

You can play the game and find cheap used cars, even if it is a hassle. Ideally, you don’t have to play the car shopping game too frequently.
